Talking about censorship of racial slurs, does the episode of Fawlty Towers where the Major discusses w**s and n*****s still avoid cuts? I haven't watched any re runs for a while

The power of this scene is lost by censoring the racial slurs, another example of how PC censorship makes no allowances for context. This scene is very similar to the one in Grange Hill where Gripper gets his comeuppance. They did this too early for Nick Cotton though, 10 episodes in & he gets his comeuppance? He carried on making a nuisance of himself for years. Gary Holton was in line to play Cotton, he turned it down & suggested John Altman who was a friend of his. Do You Mean This One Arfur?

Yes that's the scene I was thinking of. I used to feel sorry for Gripper's little friend, sad looking character.
John Cleese apparently agreed to the cuts for repeats, pretty sure that scene is removed when the BBC show it. Dvds of programmes from that period are even cut. They showed the Fawlty Towers clip on an edition of 'It Was Alright In The 70s'. The only time I think they should censor words like this is when they're used deliberately or gratuitously in order to offend, most of the time they're used to make a comment on prejudice, not to promote it.

Speaking of Ulric, I remember that Ali Osman ( Nejdet Salih ) was seen in Auf Wiedersehen Pet. He's known as Nej Adamson currently, I think this name change may be because he's complained that he's forever associated with Ali Osman & has struggled to get acting jobs as a result. Dr Legg as well as the barman on the lad's fishing trip. I read that Angie Watts was to be played by an unknown, Jean Fenell ( publicity photo below ), but she was dropped at the last minute, her story ends very sadly- www.radiotimes.com/news/2015-02-02/eastenders-revealed-the-original-angie-and-why-she-was-fired-30-years-ago/Thanks for the link Arthur. I never knew of that story so it was interesting to read. It obviously was a shock to Jean to lose the role at that late stage.

The novelty value of watching this is wearing off, truth is it's a bit shit with cardboard cut out characters. Nowhere near as good as 'The Bureau'
