Not a fan I'm afraid but I think it still draws a large audience. I watched it from it's opening show until the early 90s. I never missed it once out of the habit and if I see an episode now I can see how poorly scripted and In some cases acted it is. It really is far fetched and dreary.

I couldn't agree more. How anyone can watch this rubbish is beyond me. It's not just Eastenders though. I can't watch any of these soap operas. Coronation Street was OK in the 70s with Stan & Hilda, Len Fairclough, Eddie Yates, Albert Tatlock etc but it is woeful now. Emmerdale Farm... sorry, Emmerdale, I could never take too. Not even now Carli D'Amato is in it!

I hate Eastenders. Working class men are often portrayed as jail birds, criminals, bad parents, scruple free, any negative stereotype you want.

It’s just utterly dreadful in my opinion. So is Coronation Street, which as Gene said, was ok at one time. These soap operas are on too much and in order to fill up the number of episodes, the producers have to make them ever more sensationalistic and ridiculous.

I believe Eastenders is doing another ‘incest lite’ storyline. Unbelievable, is this entertainment or informing the public?

Yesterday I caught a few minutes of Vintage Coronation Street whilst changing channels, it must have been from the mid eighties (I was just about to say mid seventies but the bloke who got killed by the Blackpool tram was in it and I know that was in the eighties.) The earlier episodes were much better, more entertaining and easier to follow. I detest these soaps now though, some of the stuff they put on when young kids are still up is way out order. How many serial killers etc. can you have on one street anyway? I try to avoid them now, but as you say they absolutely dominate evening TV. Charles.

In a word no, not a fan of any of these. Not watched Coronation Street for over 15 years because it became so crap and as for the others not bothered about them.

Surprised Nick Love hasn't tried to do a 'enders episode considering his mate (Danny Dyer) is on/off in it. Mind you it'd have to be broadcast after 11pm if he did!

Used to watch it regularly in the early days, can't remember when I stopped watching it, probably when the Mitchell bruvvers were introduced. I still watch the odd episode but have no idea what's going on. I don't see the point of soaps to be honest, the fact that they have no end in sight unless the show is cancelled makes them seem meaningless. With a single drama or series you have a 'beginning, middle & end', whereas soaps just drag on.
