Coronation Street was, and no doubt still is, the same. Everyone always in the same pub. That might have been the case in small communities years ago, but its ridiculous now, as if its kind of sealed off from the rest of the world

Quite liked that dodgy dub reggae track they used for a few years in Enders. Didn't the reggae stallholder have a bit part in it sort of like Big Ron?

Oh yes, the imaginatively named "Winston" played by Ulric Browne, the longest serving Eastenders extra apparently. I'd forgotten he had a music stall, sounded like he only had 1 record. Also remember him in a tv ad in the 80's where he was in a shower, I think it was for Heat Electric or shampoo or something, from then on whenever my brother saw him in Eastenders he described him as 'the shower man'. Does his fair share of panto- www.ulricbrowne.com/artwork.htmBig Ron was in a tv ad for Do It All.

Keeping the Reggae stall man as 'Ulric' would've been a better and more interesting than sodding "Winston", what next they'll make a time travel cop drama 20 years later and call the barman 'Nelson'?

Speaking of Ulric, I remember that Ali Osman ( Nejdet Salih ) was seen in Auf Wiedersehen Pet. He's known as Nej Adamson currently, I think this name change may be because he's complained that he's forever associated with Ali Osman & has struggled to get acting jobs as a result. Dr Legg as well as the barman on the lad's fishing trip. I read that Angie Watts was to be played by an unknown, Jean Fenell ( publicity photo below ), but she was dropped at the last minute, her story ends very sadly- www.radiotimes.com/news/2015-02-02/eastenders-revealed-the-original-angie-and-why-she-was-fired-30-years-ago/

Interesting that Angie was swapped to Anita Dobson at the last minute might have been a different portrayal if it stayed with Jean Fennel. Also didn't the Dirty Den/Pete Beale roles get swapped too from Grantham and Peter Dean too? Also Tony Carpenter (Oscar James) was Bernie Machin in Out too. I'll have to watch out know a bit too much about Eastenders.

Yes, Dean says this- "Tony Holland, who created EastEnders, remembered me from Law & Order and he originally cast me as Dirty Den with Leslie Grantham as Pete Beale; then the producers switched the roles around because I was used to working in the market". Dean's dad was a costermonger I think.
I read an interview with Peter Dean where he complained that Leslie Grantham would talk over his lines, he also described Grantham as a 'oncer', someone who has been in prison once only but acts like he's one of the chaps. There's an article online about how Dean regrets not seeing Grantham before he died, apparently they hadn't spoken since he left Eastenders, usual stuff about a wrong word causing a rift.

The power of this scene is lost by censoring the racial slurs, another example of how PC censorship makes no allowances for context. This scene is very similar to the one in Grange Hill where Gripper gets his comeuppance. They did this too early for Nick Cotton though, 10 episodes in & he gets his comeuppance? He carried on making a nuisance of himself for years. Gary Holton was in line to play Cotton, he turned it down & suggested John Altman who was a friend of his.
