Anyone have a favourite ident? And why?
For me, it has to be ATV - in colour.
Everytime I hear it, it's means "Tiswas", or the Local News (ATV-Today) and then Crossroads is about to start! I didn't watch the latter I wasn't allowed to watch Tiswas as my parents disapproved, unfortunately, but we did watch Crossoads ATV is my favourite too, growing up in the Midlands region I suppose. Watching Thriller on DVD recently I thought how good the ident seemed. Vi

Nah seriously bawdy meets alternative-comic humour aside you didn't miss much IIRC Vi.

OTT was dreadful. I might be wrong but I think it may have had the plug pulled on it before the series had finished.

OTT was dreadful. I might be wrong but I think it may have had the plug pulled on it before the series had finished. It's possible, considering Central were a new company, and wanting to make an impression on it's midlands viewers - as most of them were pretty p***ed off about the loss of ATV. It was used as a yardstick "I hope this isn't the shape of TV now"....
I heard (so may not be accurate) that only about 8 or 9 episodes were made - going out live each week. And it was quietly suggested by Management that the show should be quietly forgotten - as a handful of ITV regions had already pulled out of showing it anyway.
It was replaced with "Saturday Stayback" - though never really saw that - so can't comment!
Central's new management was embarrassed by "Tiswas" and "OTT". Somehow - nearly 200odd recorded episodes of "Tiswas" were mysteriously wiped; only a handful survived.
It is said that Chris Tarrant was outraged by this - as he was trying to make a deal to buy all of the episodes. Funny thing is - Central made moves on "Crossroads"; it got rid of it's lead character - losing viewers, and changing it too much beyond recognition; and it died a slow death. Don't even get me started on the "reboot" in 2001......
I am unsure if "OTT" was recorded - though there are episodes on youtube.

You are probably right on OTT, I certainly don't remember much more than 5 or 6 being shown in the Granada area. I suspect it got quietly forgotten about, from memory it was in late 82 and was after Tiswas finished. The last series of Tiswas didn't have Sally James in it (very disappointing!) maybe Chris Tarrant wasn't in it either, seem to remember some other bloke presenting it, although I may be wrong.

Chris Tarrant was also an executive producer of Tiswas and OTT so would have had a vested interest in securing it considering he was a major part of the show. I remember the last two series of Tiswas and loved it. Never saw OTT though.

Around '83 Chris went off to TV-AM - with that Rat....

My favourite ident at the time I think would have been Thames, and I although I didn't watch the Sweeney then, it was because I enjoyed Magpie, the ITV thinking man's Blue Peter which I enjoyed then.

There was a clip of OTT on a 'worst of tv' prog just the other day on channel 5.
Tiswas, OTT & Saturday Stayback were forerunners to TFI Friday & the Chris Evans style of presenting. Can't say I'm a fan, the joking around with the crew behind the camera & in jokes makes the viewer at home feel ignored. Danny Baker was the same, they seem to be entertaining themselves rather than the viewers.
