Excellent spot Alex! My next door neighbour's in the late 70's had a pale green J reg one, I remember the Dad in the family didn't learn to drive till later, so the mum was the only driver. It got replaced in 1980 by a Datsun 180B M reg.

Another great spot from D.I Drake. A tidy 37 year old Mercedes 240. Still taxed and MOT'd till October 2020 with 158,000 on the clock. Thanks for sending the photos over Bolly Gene.

And if you look closely you’ll see my dad trying not be in shot! It was lovely. I had to explain why I was taking pictures but he wasn’t massively surprised. He knew I’d be first in the queue for a time machine. To be fair he wouldn’t be far behind I’m sure!

Great spot Bolly, thanks for taking the pics and thanks to Gene for hosting.
Recent Mercs aren't my cup of Tetley one bit but those from the late 70s and early/mid 80s certainly are. I remember having a drive of a 500SEL back in '85 and loving how smooth the power delivery was. Our next door neighbour was a chauffeur and often bought the Merc home after dropping his gov'nor off after a late night event. One time he had it at home for the weekend so let me take it for a spin. It certainly felt opulent for the time.
Sam.

I had a 2001 Merc E Class 320CDI estate, best car I ever owned. Lovely engine and the car was very well built. Was suffering from some rust when sold it, but it was 15 years old, I think that was one of their known issues, around the wheel arches.

Nice spot Alex and to Gene for posting. That would be the W123 Mercedes range, launched in 1976, 240 sounds like one of the 3 diesels available, there was also the 300D and the woefully pedestrian 200D (although found a market as a popular taxi).
Thought to be one of Mercedes best models, and quite tough, and sought after now, ergo, rising prices for good ones as classics. The whitewall tyres are a bit out of place though but great to see its condition.

Never liked whitewall tyres, they look ................. trashy.

This new job I've started, delivering stuff to garages, has resulted in me seeing a few interesting motors. A Morris minor and a P regd Mini at one place, another had a triumph 1300, also a Saab 96 rally car, a Lotus Europa and a Dodge St Regis, in the colours of the NYPD.
It isn't always car parts I get to deliver, one day last week I had to drop off a big carton of toilet rolls... Felt like Jack in Loving Arms, at the start, "let's get back to the big bad world of the bent bog roll!"

A couple of classic car spots recently: Last weekend Annie and I went for a ball of chalk around Frensham Great Pond just outside of Farnham, Surrey. In the car park we spotted this Karmann Ghia. Although I don't mind the standard car, this one is certainly not to my taste and having a mix of styling: The next spot was along the seafront at Shanklin yesterday. A tidy 1954 Austin A40, very good condition for its age, one or two things could be sorted on it such as some perished rubbers but other than that tidy and standard looking, not loused up like the Karmann Ghia: Sam.
