A couple of classic car spots recently: Last weekend Annie and I went for a ball of chalk around Frensham Great Pond just outside of Farnham, Surrey. In the car park we spotted this Karmann Ghia. Although I don't mind the standard car, this one is certainly not to my taste and having a mix of styling: The next spot was along the seafront at Shanklin yesterday. A tidy 1954 Austin A40, very good condition for its age, one or two things could be sorted on it such as some perished rubbers but other than that tidy and standard looking, not loused up like the Karmann Ghia: Sam. That Ghia is quite well known in the VW scene, the sun bleached Patina look is interesting. Underneath the floors and everything mechanical is top notch - albeit far from Standard. This earlier 50's Ghia I smudged in Belgium last year was more of a RAT / Patina look... The interior was falling apart, with holes in the floor, and some interesting crocodile skin seats

Back in November I spotted this unusual Austin A55 pick up whilst out walking the Dog... Looks to have been an import, it's now under a cover so I hope to ask the owner when I see them when I am next passing.

One of the garages I went to yesterday were working on an A55 pick up like that one, it was B regd and in very good condition. The one in the photo may have been an import but they did remain in production until the marina pick up and van came out in 72, and I do remember seeing one on an L years ago. The last few registered might just have crept over onto M regd.

Another great spot by DI Alex Drake over the weekend. This 55 year old blue Triumph Herald was first registered on 11th September 1964. With just 31567 miles on the clock, it is still taxed until 1st April 2020. Thanks for sending over the photo Bolly Gene. This one has gone! I walk past it most mornings to work and just before all this lockdown lifestyle hit us, it had a for sale notice on it which I thought was a bit hopeful on such a quiet road but very soon after, it was gone! So I assume it has been sold on. It may still be local, I guess, so I'm keeping my eye out for it on my walks.

Lovely looking Herald that - hope it's gone to a good home. On the way home from work just now I passed a local bodyshop which specialises in classics of all kinds but their bread and butter work is yank metal, as I wafted past today I saw the back end of a beautiful black '67 Pontiac Bonneville two door Coupe poking it's considerable Aris' out of the main doorway and caught a glimpse of a white (C3 shape) Corvette Stingray behind it. Hot-diggety-dang they weren't 'alf nice...! [ I've recently started rewatching some classic US TV series on dvd and have got into thew habit of 'spotting' cars in the background, I've used the pause button so much it takes twice as long to watch each episode - I'm currently a few episodes into 'The Invaders' but have already been through the first two seasons of 'The Streets Of San Francisco' and season one of 'Starsky & Hutch'. Lined up for future perusal are 'The Rockford Files' and 'Petroceli' ]. Villain

I've been trying to car spot amongst episodes of Kojak too, amongst the many US motors are the odd U.S spec MK1 Ford Capris, badged as Mercury's there and had twin headlamps before the European market got them and side markers on the front and rear wings.

Yes, I do that too on US series. My favourite yank motors are late 60s and 70s Plymouth’s and Dodges,

My favourite yank motors are late 60s and 70s Plymouth’s and Dodges, All this 'telly spotting' has got me looking at ebay and carandclassic for American metal, it doesn't really do me any good to keep looking but the 'chase' is half of the fun I suppose! There have been some nice Dodge Coronets and Plymouth Fury's for sale recently, their mid '60s styling can look quite plain in photographs but they are often so much more impressive in the flesh. At the Stoneleigh show last Summer there was a '66 Dodge Coronet in the car park which was obviously still a work in progress but it had such a great presence, it was much bigger than I'd expected and looked very rakish with its 'reverse' roofline / rear quarter styling. Spotted out on the deserted streets of Harrow On The Hill yesterday by our very own Charlie Croker was this classic Volvo 145DL Reg VET473K Registered on 23rd November 1971, it's now 49 years old with the tax & MOT up next month. Thanks for sending me the photos Charlie This is the "updated" model of the Volvo we see at the end of Sweeney 2 (When White is zeroed by the marksman). The same car is also seen when Georgina Hale arrives at Jack's flat in the taxi. Furthermore, it is parked behind an upgraded post 1970 Volvo 145DL in exactly the same colour! The main one we see in Sweeney 2 was a 1969 model with the split screen rear side window. The split screen glass was dropped in 1970 in favour of a one piece window. Notice also on the offside photo above, that there is a vent just below the rear side window. This was also missing on the 1969 Sweeney 2 Volvo because it was only introduced in 1970 for the flow through ventilation system, along with the one piece window. Finally, the car above also has the diagonal slash on the front grille. This only came in on 1971 cars. For comparison, here is the car in Sweeney 2: An interesting thought. As the car in the photos Charlie Croker has sent me is a London car, I wonder what are the chances of it being the very same car we see parked in front of the other Volvo near Jack's flat back in 1977? Gene.

Still a pretty tidy example and a nice link to Sweeney 2, there can't be many of them around now.
