I first saw it on youtube, I hadn't even heard of it prior to that. I can't remember it ever being on tv & it's only currently available on a US dvd. Then again Get Carter only really came to prominence in the 90's after it was 'rediscovered', previously it didn't have the classic status it has now. The Reckoning is a good film but it lacks the style & brutality of Get Carter, the interest in watching it is to see how similar it is to GC, I'd be amazed if Mike Hodges hadn't seen it, there are just too many similarities for it to be coincidental. John Osborne who plays Cyril Kinnear in GC considered Nicol Williamson 'the greatest actor since Brando', he was primarily a stage actor & though he has a powerful presence on film, I think Michael Caine gives the more compelling performance, Williamson is a more stagy actor not quite as suited to film.

A few images I came across whilst looking at an AWP article on the Newcastle Chronicle's website- "It's party time for Michael Caine at Newcastle's Royal Station Hotel on July 25, 1970. The star, who took the lead role in Get Carter was relaxing at an after film party for actors and production staff. With Michael are two of his co-stars Petra Markham, left, and Dorothy White" "It's party time for Michael Caine at Newcastle's Royal Station Hotel on July 25, 1970. The star, who took the lead role in Get Carter was relaxing at an after film party for actors and production staff. Also celebrating with Michael was the film's director Mike Hodges"

Wonder how sincere the smiles between Hendry & Caine were? Apparently James Booth disliked Caine intensely, I read a quote from him where he refered to Caine as an 'egomaniac'.
Terry O'Neill is credited as the photographer for several smudges, this must've been at the request of Michael Caine who I believe he was pals with as I think it's unusual to have a top photographer taking stills on a film set. The equivalent of having David Bailey taking smudges.
The camera operator on Get Carter is Dusty Miller, a familiar name on the credits of both The Sweeney ( & both films ) and Minder. Director Mike Hodges was one of the key people behind Euston Films & an associate of Sweeney writer Trevor Preston.
