Excellent! Here are my choices from that little lot. May 1977... Rod Stewart - First cut is the deepest/I don't want to talk about it - Don't mind this. Also liked Everything But The Girl's Version. Van McCoy - The Shuffle - Brilliant and very of it's time. The Eagles - Hotel California - Great track, but they did far better. Boz Scaggs - Lido Shuffle - Brilliant. Bolly dislikes it so I always have this on in the Quattro Trammps - Disco Inferno - Another dancefloor filler. Fleetwood Mac - Don't Stop - Great track from an essential album. ELO - Telephone Line - One of their weakest for me but still played regularly. June 1977... Sex Pistols - God save the Queen - Great and don't forget the record sleeve was voted best of all time! Hot Chocolate - So you win again - Great track. Gladys Knight and the Pips - Baby don't change your mind - I like this more than Midnight Train To Georgia. ELP - fanfare for the common man - Not everyone gets ELP but I like them. Keith Emerson (RIP) was a genius. Stranglers - Peaches - Superb. Olivia Newton John - Sam - hated this at the time but don't mind it on the rare occasion it is aired now. Bryan Ferry - Tokyo Joe Alessi - Oh Lori - A strange bit of elevator music this. In fact, I was in an elevator the first time I heard it in Birmingham. July 1977... Donna Summer - I feel love - A classic. Still goes down well now (The song, I can't vouch for Donna) Boney M - Ma Baker - I don't mind this at all. Better than Brown Girl In The Ring. Sex Pistols - Pretty Vacant. Detroit Emeralds - Feel the need - Not a bad track. Rita Coolidge - Were all alone - I like this one too. Commodores - Easy - I do like this but it is overplayed. Prefer 3 Times a lady. Supertramp - Give a little bit - Brilliant. Hodgson was superb at this time. Fleetwood Mac - Dreams - For me, probably their best track ever. Another great trip down memory lane Cartman - Thanks for posting Gene.

Ta Gene, and we get into August, and my driving test! Sadly, failed for hitting the kerb and failing to stop at an unmarked crossroads....
The Floaters - Float on* a bit of a guilty pleasure, and a one hit wonder Showaddywaddy - You got what it takes* not really a fan of theirs, but this was OK Elvis - Way Down* love this, probably Elvis' best ever, and his last ever! Candi Station - Nights on broadway* The Stranglers - Something better change* Carly Simon - Nobody does it better* love this, the best ever Bond theme, IMO, and one of my two favourite Bond films Jam - All around the world* Space - Magic fly* Steve Gibbons Band - Tulane* love this too Mink DeVille - Spanish Stroll* - and this Thin Lizzy - Dancin in the moonlight* Eddie and the Hot Rods - Do anything you wanna do* love this as well Donna Summer - Down deep inside* Yvonne Elliman - I cant get you out of my mind* Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene - take or leave this a bit David Soul - Silver Lady* - IMO the best of his handful of hits in 77/8
Some decent stuff there. Punk now starting to make an impact on the charts and I will get 77 out of the way today if I can, so more to come!

And September, as I start back in the upper 6th, my last year at school...
Meri Wilson - Telephone Man* sort of so bad its good! Deniece Williams - That's what friends are for* Boomtown Rats - Looking after number 1* Emotions - Best of my love* Elkie Brooks - Sunshine after the rain* Adverts - Gary Gilmores eyes* Patsy Gallant - From New York to LA* - love this Ram Jam - Black Betty - mot overkeen Yes - Wondrous Stories* a kind of last gasp of stadium rock La Belle Epoque - Black is Black*
I think that by this stage in the year the two dominant musical styles which made the late 70s so good were emerging, with disco and punk beginning to become dominant

I've been looking forward to the August issue, what a great month that was and great memories of a holiday in Dorset and my second successful 'pull'. Good memories of going to see The Spy Who Loved Me while we were away, and two whole weeks of holiday and dating (under the watchful eye of her mother ) Great music and my choices for this month were: Candi Staton - Nights on broadway The Stranglers - Something better change Carly Simon - Nobody does it better - Agreed that this must be the best ever Bond theme Space - Magic fly Mink DeVille - Spanish Stroll Thin Lizzy - Dancin in the moonlight Eddie and the Hot Rods - Do anything you wanna do Donna Summer - Down deep inside - the theme from The Deep, another classic film Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene Then in to September to the start of the 5th and final year at school with the biggest surprise of all to be bestowed the honour of becoming a prefect - with my reputation? My missus has always maintained it was to give me responsibility and keep me out of trouble. Not so much my choices of music this month though: Emotions - Best of my love Elkie Brooks - Sunshine after the rain Patsy Gallant - From New York to LA - not heard this for donkey's, time to get YouTube up in another tab.... Ram Jam - Black Betty Yes - Wondrous Stories You may not like it Carty but Ram Jam was the best one here for me. Sam

I am going to wrap the 70s up now with December 77. Its actually a very short list, as not that much new, most carried over from November, and also, overlaps with January 78 (see the first entry on the thread)
Donna Summer - Loves unkind* Boney M - Belfast* Dooleys - Love of my Life*
And that is actually the only three not covered in the previous listings. I have really liked putting these musical memories up, and I'm going to do one more year - 1980, starting on Monday, then my work on retro charts is done. I'm not massively bothered about the rest of the 80s, although there were good bits here and there.

...and I've enjoyed reading them Cartman Straight on with my faves from that lot. August 1977... Candi Staton - Nights on broadway. I like this but very rarely hear it now. The Stranglers - Something better change - Not one of their best for me but likable. Carly Simon - Nobody does it better - Certainly one of THE best Bond themes. That credit goes to Live And Let Die for me. Space - Magic fly - I've heard a few versions of this and don't mind it. Space are still gigging now I believe. Thin Lizzy - Dancin in the moonlight - Brilliant. David Soul - Silver Lady - I agree with Carty. Hutch's best release. September 1977... Patsy Gallant - From New York to LA - Guilty Pleasure Ram Jam - Black Betty October 1977... Rod Stewart - Youre in my heart* Abba - Name of the game - Superb track from the Swedes. Stranglers - No more heroes - Superb. On all the time in the Quattro. Status Quo - Rockin all over the world - Queen - we are the champions - I agree. Overplayed but a decent track. Tom Robinson - 2 4 6 8 Motorway - Don't hear this much now either. November 1977... Bee Gees - How deep is your love - Absolutely love this track. A shame others have ruined it with their interpretations. Santana - Shes not there - Sub Zero cool. ELO - Turn to stone - ELO at their best here. Love this track. Elvis Costello - Watching the detectives - Great but not as good as Oliver's Army Crystal Gayle - Don't it make my brown eyes blue - Music to shag sheep to, as Oz would say. December 1977... A big fat zero from those 3 for me. Sorry. Really enjoyed the 1977 run Cartman. Thanks again for putting it all together Gene.

Thanks for the input guys. We will now get into 1980 which is the final year of this run down, the late 70s, to me, were a very special time and in hindsight, a kind of chilled, relaxed, enjoyable interlude as the three day week etc and economic difficulties of the earlier part of the decade had faded away, and the unpleasant upheavals of the 80s had yet to start. The high point was 1976, but musically, 78/9. 1980 represented a sort of carry over, the peak had passed, but still a good year.
I am now 20, and into my second year of the world of work:
Billy Preston & Syreeta - With you Im born again. Not really my bag Madness - My girl* The nutty boys were on a good run The Nolans - Im In the mood for dancing* - Go on, I know its a guilty pleasure!!! Specials - Too much to young, Special AKA Live* - love this Styx - Babe* and this Clash - London Calling* - one of my all time favourites, brilliant Dollar - I want to hold your hand - OK ish (liked Tereze Bazar!!) Joe Jackson - Its different for girls* Gibson Bros - Que Sera Ma Vida* Jon & Vangel8is - I hear you now* Bee Gees - Spirits Having flown* The Regents - 7 teen* Madness - One step beyond* Donna Summer & Barbara Streisand - Enough is enough*
Incidentally, my 11 year old son loves Madness! particularly Baggy Trousers and One Step Beyond

Kenny Rogers - Coward of the county - awful The Whispers - And the beat goes on* The Boomtown Rats - Someones looking at you* Keith Michell - Captain Beaky - very odd one, not in a good way Cliff Richard - Carrie* about the end of Cliffs run of decent stuff at the end of the 70s before he reverted to type New Musik - Living by numbers* love this The Ramones - Baby I love you* Selecter - 3 minute hero* Michael Jackson - Rock with you* - overplayed a bit Matchbox - Buzz Buzz a diddle it* - OK is, the start of a kind of Ted/50s revival Blondie - Atomic* Rupert Holmes - Escape (pina Colada song)* love this Elvis Costello - I cant stand up for falling down* - OK but one of Elvis C's weaker ones Marti Webb - Take that look off your face* I don't normally like Andrew Lloyd Webber type stuff but I did like this for some reason
