March now:
Fern Kinney - Together we are beautiful* OK sort of The Jam - Going Underground* love this The Vapors - Turning Japanese* Liquid Gold - Dance yourself Dizzy - seem to remember this being some sort of Euro entry Peter Gabriel - Games without frontiers* Rainbow - All night long* Detroit Spinners - Working my way back to you* Captain & Tennile - Do that to me one more time* The Police - So Lonely - or Sue Lawley. Don't like it either way The Beat - Hands off shes mine* Martha & The Muffins - Echo Beach* - one of my favourite records of all time, absolutely love it. Why this group weren't huge I don't get, they were a one hit wonder, it came from an album called Metromusic Lambrettas - Poison Ivy* Squeeze - Another nail in my heart* Rush - Spirit of Radio* the only one of theirs I ever liked Genesis - Turn it on again - not keen, just not a fan of theirs at all Shakin Stevens - Hot dog - a boring and unoriginal revivalist who was inexplicably big in the early 80s UB40 - King/Food for thought - another group/artist I have never got Barbara Dickson - January February* B A Robertson - Kool in the Kaftan* -I always liked BA
A bit mixed, some good 2 Tone/Ska stuff in there, with a few I'm not keen on

Straight on with a new decade eh? Nice one Cartman January. Madness - My girl - A great track that takes you right back. Styx - Babe - Yep. Great track. For some reason though I had this down as a summer track. Clash - London Calling - Great stuff. Jon & Vangelis - I hear you now - Not everyone's cuppa but I liked the Vangelis stuff. Madness - One step beyond - Just. Not brilliant but worthy. February. The Whispers - And the beat goes on - I played this to death at the time and consequently got sick of it. I'll leave it in as one of my picks here though. Cliff Richard - Carrie - I agree, one of the last listenable tracks from Cliff. New Musik - Living by numbers - Nice one Carty. I'd forgotten this track. Michael Jackson - Rock with you - Yes, overplayed, but one of Jacko's best ever in my opinion with less of his gag reflex sounds punctuating every line. Blondie - Atomic - A mega track from a mega lady. March. Fern Kinney - Together we are beautiful. Passable I suppose. Always reminds me of Deniece Williams. Liquid Gold - Dance yourself Dizzy. One of Windy Miller's favourite tracks this. Peter Gabriel - Games without frontiers - Kind of grew on me over time. Detroit Spinners - Working my way back to you - Should have been released in the 70's this one. The Police - So Lonely - Marmite stuff from Sting. Not bad. Martha & The Muffins - Echo Beach - A superb track and in the top 10 of my soundtrack to the 80's Genesis - Turn it on again - More marmite? I love Genesis. I think Windy shares your dislike though Cartman. Barbara Dickson - January February - I'd have guessed this was 79 not 80. Good shout. Some good stuff there in the first quarter Cartman. The memories come flooding back when you think about them. That is no bad thing though, even if it is a little sad to think that even the mush of the 80's is by far and away better than today's offerings. Gene.

May now, as the summer starts, which was, from memory, quite wet
Johnny Logan - Whats another year. Ireland's winning Euro entry. Remember a few years ago Shane MacGowan from the Pogues doing a brilliant punk cover of it! Hot Chocolate - No doubt about it* - love this MASH - Suicide is painless (theme from MASH) - all right ish I suppose The Beat - Mirror in the bathroom* Blondie - Call Me* - Debbie never did a bad song Roxy Music - Over You - again, Ok but not really my bag Gary Numan - We are glass The Ruts - Staring at the rude boys* The Specials - Rat Race* New Musik - World of Water - follow up to their excellent Living by Numbers, not as good, after this they disappeared Matchbox - Midnite Dynamos* - part of a short lived Ted revival, not bad Jona Lewie - Youll always find me in the kitchen at parties* - love this, and bit of trivia, one of the girl backing singers was Kirsty MacColl
Some good stuff, but I think it does reinforce my view that the peak had passed musically

Re The Gap Band. That's the crappiest dance ever. It usually done at the end of the night when folk are a bit worse for wear. They must wonder in the morning why their clothes are covered in a mixture of booze, fag ash and dirt🤣

Great memories for me trying to dance to some of these hits at a disco on a school trip to York. Stacey Lattisaw's Jump to the Beat was a great tune from the time. You're right about the summer of 1980 Cartman; cold and wet in June and July from my memory and a washout family holiday too! Vi

Yes, it was a poor summer, but a good memory of August was a weeks holiday in August when I drove down to Brighton to see a school mate who had gone to live there, 200 odd miles in my (even then) old Austin A40, stopping overnight in Wendover. Plenty of these were listened to on the radio, and I went to a show at the Brighton Centre on the last night there, the Three Degrees had been booked but had to pull out at the last minute, so the replacements were....The Dooleys!!! Yes, I've seen them live!!
Abba - The winner takes it all* Bowie - Ashes to Ashes* brilliant, love this Sheena Easton - 9 to 5 - passable I suppose, and she was rather nice at that time! The Jam - Start* Kelly Marie - Feels like Im in love - liked it a bit at the time, now not that keen The Pirahnas - Tom Hark* love this! remember Bury played Newcastle in the league cup and a load of Newcastle fans turned up, skinheads, wearing Doc Martins and I thought they would kick off, but they were funny and just danced to this on the terraces when this was played! ELO - All over the world* Tom Browne - Funkin for Jamaica* Ultravox - Sleepwalk* The Clash - Bankrobber* Cliff Richard - Dreamin Nick Straker Band - A walk in the park* Billy Joel - Its still rock n roll to me* Split Enz - I got you* played quite a lot during my Brighton trip

And September, so I can finish off tomorrow.
Memories of a few nights out in Manchester getting home quite late again. Another funny one was this club a gang of us turned up at and this doorman wouldn't let us in because one of the lads was wearing jeans. However, it was deemed OK for the girls to go in wearing them. The solution was a quick bit of cross dressing! One of the girls was wearing a pair of those shiny lycra pants which were in fashion at the time, as worn by Olivia Newton John in Grease, so the two of them did a trouser swap! Got a bit of ribbing afterwards
Randy Crawford - One day I'll fly away* Police - Don't stand so close to me - no ta Stevie Wonder - Jammin - mm, a bit 50/50 IMO, not a massive fan of his TBH, apart from two great ones in 76/7 Hazel O Connor - 8th Day* love this, another one which got a lot of play on my Brighton road trip Sheena Easton - Modern Girl - same comments as 9 to 5 last month Queen - Another one bites the dust - not one of their better ones, and overplayed Madness - Baggy Trousers* - love it, as does my 11 year old! Ottawan - DISCO* a bit of a guilty pleasure Shakin Stevens - Marie Marie - never liked this second rate Elvis impersonator The Beat - Best friend/Stand down Margaret* - I wish she had!! (oo, bit of politics!!) XTC - Generals and Majors* Odyssey - If you're looking for a way out* love this, a reflective, beautiful song
