I confess I used to watch Brookside regularly in its early days. It did have an amateurish quality & looking at clips today it seems even moreso, but in fairness it had a more realistic edge than the other soaps. Cantankerous Harry Cross played by Bill Dean always picking on his housemate Ralph & long suffering wife Edna. Barry & Terry getting involved with local gangster Tommy McArdle ( I always remember the line 'either of you lads ever seen a video nasty?' before he sets a couple of his henchmen on them to beat them up ) Alan Rothwell, host of 'Picture Box' & his heroin habit ( there was a song released caled 'Nicholas Black Is Hooked On Smack' ) Alan Partridge the lonely bloke who was into computers played by Dicken Ashworth ( he plays the bully in the Minder ep 'Not A Bad Lad Dad' ) Ian Hendry did a few episodes of Brookside in the last year of his life. Later series were a bit crap with Ron Dixon & co., though there was an episode that I remember got a massive laugh where 'Dicko''s daughter utters a line that my brothers still quote to this day, she tells a 'God botherer' that keeps pestering her to 'Do one, Moses!' I'm sure they're not the only people in the country who still say 'do one Moses' when wanting rid of someone. As for Hollyoaks, dreadful from day one. For a really bad soap, who remembers 'Families', the British/Australian co production featuring Jude Law? That was pitiful. Also 'Revelations', a soap by the guy who helped ruin Doctor Who, Russell T Davies, apparently only shown in three ITV regions it was about a bishop's family & had to be seen to be believed.

I've checked on yt, both El Dorado & Albion Market are on there so that's my viewing sorted for tonight Might give 'Triangle' a revisit while I'm at it. Doctors is embarrassing to watch, proper amdram in places, I think the BBC assume that only the Werthers Original crowd will tune into their daytime shows. 'Father Brown' with the 'I'll get me coat' bloke is another.

That's a good Write up on Brookside Arthur. I remember watching it for a while a few years after it started, when Billy Corkhill was in it. I did like his stories. I do Remember the soap Called "Families", the wife used to watch it on Channel 5, but it got taken off due to poor viewing figures. Charles.

I agree that Heartbeat went on far too long. I also enjoy watching the early ones with Nick Berry but the rest I'm not too keen on. Not really that much of a fan of only fools but Arthur you are spot on it went downhill when Relationships were brought into it. The early episodes are quite good especially the Grandad ones. Albert was good but I did like Grandad. I also admit to liking Brookside. I used to watch a few Soaps around the time Brookie ended, I've long since given up on them now, Such a waste of time. Brookside was the one I enjoyed the most. I remember a good scene from Brookie, I can't quite remember who it was, Barry Grant maybe, He was driving across the front lawns of the houses in the close in a Cortina I think, shouting "you can have me wife for a Tenner" Churning up everyone's front lawn going round in a circle. I presume his other half had been having an affair. The other Soaps should have finished years ago

For the life of me i can't understand why people love Coronation Street and Eastenders. They are simply dross with their best years long behind them.

Corry has been crap since the days of Hilda & Stan, Albert Tatlock, Eddy Yates, Fred Gee etc. Eastenders has been crap from the get go.
All of these talent(less) shows... X Factor, The Voice and the likes should have gone on no longer than the first series, and even that was too long for most of them.
Gene.
