I agree with the above. I would have liked to see him take the title off that cocky little bad loser Hamilton again, but I also can see it from Rosberg's side. He has reached the pinnacle and gone out on top. I'd like to see someone go in to Mercedes who isn't going to play second fiddle to Hamilton under any circumstances. That has to Vettel as Alonso has mellowed a bit. With two spoilt little brats in the team it will be fireworks and that will be great for the fans It could be a shot in the arm that this sport needs.

German and Mercedes driver Pascal Wehrlein is available..... Surely not going to get the seat though?

In my opinion Lewis was quite gracious in defeat last weekend. He was also kind with his words to Rosberg on social media.
However, he couldn't resist one last swipe at the German following his announcement to quit yesterday. Hamilton said "He's not surprised at Rosberg's decision really, given that he's been racing for 18 years and only won once."
So often in sport, those who are successful are disliked and even hated. Not just in F1. Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, Senna, Vettel. Peoples opinions shifts somewhat when those at the top of their game begin to decline. I suspect it'll be no different for Hamilton.
Gene.

I finally got to see the final race of the season from Abu Dhabi. How can so much money be spent on creating such a terrible race circuit? I noticed Paris Hilton doesn't think much of Yas Marina.... she got there late, and left before the race finished Well done to Nico Rosberg who did everything that's required to win a World Championship. Throughout the year he was more focused on the end goal. Not so much sublime brilliance but no down-periods either. Just constantly delivering at his best level throughout and that was sufficient to deliver the WDC when sitting in the Mercedes car. Jenson Button's car metaphorically themed the season for McLaren with the wheels actually coming off the car (or the right front at least). Also got to say goodbye to FIA man Herbie Bash, without whom a race would never get started. How they finished :-1 Nico Rosberg GER Mercedes 385 2 Lewis Hamilton GBR Mercedes 380 3 Daniel Ricciardo AUS Red Bull Racing 256 4 Sebastian Vettel GER Ferrari 212 5 Max Verstappen NED Red Bull Racing 204 6 Kimi Räikkönen FIN Ferrari 186 7 Sergio Perez MEX Force India 101 8 Valtteri Bottas FIN Williams 85 9 Nico Hulkenberg GER Force India 72 10 Fernando Alonso ESP McLaren 54 11 Felipe Massa BRA Williams 53 12 Carlos Sainz ESP Toro Rosso 46 13 Romain Grosjean FRA Haas 29 14 Daniil Kvyat RUS Toro Rosso 25 15 Jenson Button GBR McLaren 21 16 Kevin Magnussen DEN Renault 7 17 Felipe Nasr BRA Sauber 2 18 Jolyon Palmer GBR Renault 1 19 Pascal Wehrlein GER MRT 1 20 Stoffel Vandoorne BEL McLaren 1 21 Esteban Gutierrez MEX Haas 0 22 Marcus Ericsson SWE Sauber 0 23 Esteban Ocon FRA MRT 0 24 Rio Haryanto INA MRT 0

A surprise announcement from Nico and one I certainly was not expecting, but the open and honest explanation is refreshing. Leaving when at the top of your career to spend proper time with your family.... a great example to fathers who wish they could afford to do the same. The announcement is a little disappointing as well as I'd have liked to see him defend the title next year. I agree completely with what Windy Miller wrote, so no point me saying anything else, just read above. Interesting to read the rumours about Mercedes wanting Daniel Ricciardo but of course Red Bull won't release him early. They were probably only rumours.

Yeah a part of me would've liked Rosberg to have had another season to defend his crown and see if he'd have come out on top again but another part fully respects and understands his decision in going out on the top. Merc must've known something about this as they don't seem to surprised/panicked at the moment either. As for replacements unless and this would be a bigger shock Lewis leaves my money's on it being Bottas getting the gig for the drive at Merc. Reckon a sweetener will be arranged with Williams and unless Hamilton has a stinker season he'd fit the perfect #2 role within the team too. Wherlin? perhaps too much like a younger Rosberg for the team to deal with (maybe possible fireworks with Lewis too) but has the potential in a few years time. Vettel could be the joker in the pack here but can't see him and Hamilton together and probably Red Bulls drivers would get a hands off approach too. Who said F1 was predictable.

Nice find that Windy matey. Liked it better ten times better than Channel 4's dramatic showdown theatrics with Noel Clarke a few weeks back.

5 live's Tom Clarkson: " what stood out about Lewis Hamilton in 2016 was the maturity he showed in adversity." Really? He must have been seeing another Lewis Hamilton to the one I saw all season.
