To be honest with you,I don't watch TV that much.If I ever flick the TV on I do tend to put the 24hr news channel on,or some sport.I can see to a certain extent why people are put off classic shows such as Fawlty Towers,Rising Damp,OFAH etc,it's down to complete and utter saturation on channels such as Dave,ITV4 and the like. The parts that were once endlessly funny just aren't all that when you see them every day. I am not seeing why people would not be entertained by M & W.Come on people,be fair. They are the ultimate comedy duo.Good, clean comedy.Eric Morecambe not funny?Wow,that does surprise me.Still, each to their own. After all, there are people out there who buy Shania Twain albums. So I don't know what to think.....
My random TV irritations include that completely unfunny fat fart Michael McIntyre,Through The Keyhole (always been rubbish),and a lot of reality TV stuff gets on my wick, too.Although I do like Gogglebox. That is entertaining.

Agree again with many comments here, but I was always fond of Only Fools and Horses for years, and didn't have a problem with the 50 min episodes either, but it should really have stopped with the antique clock "striking gold" ep in 1996 approx. The later special eps were stretching it out too long.
I don't really watch a lot of modern telly now, apart from any interesting documentaries about the subjects I DO like, e.g music, cars, old films and TV shows, famous people etc. But even then they are presented by some fast talking sarcastic voice over who seems to get snidy about nothing particularly offensive and the hobbies and interests people liked back in the earlier days and are not perverted particularly, but instead thought of as "nerdy/dorky".
I've said my piece at work to slightly younger people than me (in their 30's) about some of these programmes and commented I'm not the only one who dislikes this rubbish (e.g X-factor, Britains got Talent, and that stupid Jungle reality show) and one bloke commented "Your mates must be a load of grumpy old men!"
When I was a schoolkid though I also couldn't stand on Childrens BBC a boring programme about folk songs presented and sang by Isla St Clair or another one called "Horses Galore" - nothing against people who like horses but, it surely these were only a "niche" interest for kids??
"We are the Champions" with Ron Pickering was a yawn too!
I agree about "The Office" and I never properly watched it, it was my introduction to Ricky Gervais and I've never found him funny since......... just my opinion.

I like Eric Morecambe but Wise can get on my nerves. I think the best parts of their BBC shows are at the start where Morecambe just talks nonsense & when he talks to the star guests in front of the curtains, the 'plays' can drag a bit. There's a recording of their live stage act from 1973 & it's a masterclass in timing & working a stage, very different from their tv show. Kenneth Williams describes them as his 'least favourite comedians' in his diaries.

She looks like Albert Steptoe in drag.
Gene Genie.
Nice one Gene but isn't it a bit harsh comparing Wilfred Bramble to Lucy Worsley ? ;)

I can't abide any of the 'reality' stuff whatsoever, and what makes it worse is that every chat show or 'celeb' themed programme AND the bloody news seem to think everyone is interested in the talentless no-hopers above anything else. The way almost everything on our screens is aimed at anyone with an IQ in single figures with the timespan attention of a goldfish hacks me off no end. It's no wonder I spend more of my telly time watching DVDs of '60s, '70s and '80s stuff than anything currently being made and foisted on us. I know there's an off button, but honesty, I think we deserve better! Never liked The Office much, Keith Lemon can go and do one as far as I'm concerned and anything with a 'fake jeopardy' theme or a 'going on an emotional journey' angle with participants trying to be more sincere than the last one can disappear up it's own Aris'!! The content of these programems is one thing, but they are all the same in the way they're made and edited, with constant previews of what's coming up in part two and recaps of what just happened in part one. Utter crap, and it says as much about the calibre of the people who commision and make them as it does about those who watch them. Mild rant over! Thank Gawd for the ITC box sets and a complete collection of The Sweeney!

Well I've timed my response to this thread to coincide with the start of Downton. Thankfully it is the final series! I can't stand it, bloody costume dramas don't do it for me one bit.
Another that's been mentioned here is the reality series: Big Brother, I'm A (Z-List) Celebrity, etc are one thing but why is it that so many programs have to have a competition element? I can just bear sitting through a home repair type program and makeover at a push but why did that series with Sarah Beeny have to pit three homeowners in direct competition. And why do so many programs have to have an 'elimination' round with that pathetically predictable 'pause' before someone is told to do one?
Then we get to similar competition programs like Three or Four in a Bed where the narrator thinks he's auditioning for Cillit Bang and has to shout through every program.
If I had my way there'd be more motoring programs - not that we're short of them nowadays, and more decent thrillers, or programs that at least make you think.
Now to yankee programs; I don't watch their 'comedy' as it is so lame and predictable, but the bit that now gets on my thruppennies is that many of the motoring or documentary programs rely on the regulars shouting, yelling, and arguing with each other to try to make a story: American Hot-Rod was the first, then American Chopper, to the point that I just stopped watching them. If I watch any yankee stuff now it is limited to Counting Cars, Overhauling, Fast N'Loud, or Chasing Classic Cars.
