I have recently taken possession of a collection of colour slides that I have just started to work my way through to see if there is anything of interest. I estimate there are around 5000+ slides and so far I have only opened a couple of boxes but to say I'm really excited by some of the images I've unearthed so far is an understatement. The images vary in content but are mostly a wonderful snapshot of life in the 1950s right through to the late 1960s (so far as there may be earlier or later ones as I progress through the collection). I thought I would share a few highlights along the way with 4:3tv members. Especially highlights that contain some wonderful street scenes and vehicles from that golden age. I'll start off with a very rare aerial view in Plymouth from 1965. Taken from the top of the Civic Centre which had been completed just 3 years earler at a cost of £1.6m. This view looks along Royal Parade with Plymouth Guildhall pm the right and Minster Church of St. Andrew further along. Over on the left there is Lloyds and Pophams Department Store. https://www.instagram.com/p/CkRGm4vI3Rq I'll post as and when anything interesting crops up. Gene.

I do love old street scenes. Not just of the cars, but the architecture, the fashions and the general air of unclutteredness that pervades in them. I also like establishing where they are and checking Streetview for a modern day comparison. Which is usually depressing! Looking forward to what else you've got there Gene

Fantastic, you must be chuffed to receive such a collection, I'd love to receive something like that. I'm currently going through a couple of thousand slides that my father took over the years, these are mainly for scanning of family photos but there are some views from our old holidays. There are some street scenes from the mid-70s around Kew but very few other locations.
It'll be great to see some old yet familiar locations if and when you unearth them though as they're slides I know only too well how long they take to view and to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Sam.

Thanks giving us the head up of these Gene, I'm sure these photos will be a great time capsule and look forward to seeing more - I too enjoy seeing old photos in Britain in that era. It was during my parents time so it's nice to see what life was like back then for them. I enjoy going on the Facebook group too for my own town where I live too, and it either brings back memories or is fascinating to see the well known areas as they were before my time - and rather depressingly seeing what is now long gone.

Thanks for these, Gene. Look forward to seeing more. There's a similar FB group for my nearest town that I enjoy visiting... well, until a couple of days ago when an embarrassing photo of a scruffy 18 year old me in a crowd appeared out of the blue. They should at least have had Simon Bates on to give a pre-warning.
