Seeing Hamilton & Russell on the podium with Verstappen was a surprise.

Bye Bye Sebastian Vettel. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/62330316That said from '10-'13 Seb was as dominant as Hamilton and all the criticism you can label at Lewis/Mercedes in recent years applies to them too, Alonso could/should have hoovered up one of these WDC's and maybe just maybe in a fair world Mark Webber (who I like a lot) might have got a WDC in that period too (remember Multi 1-2...). Seb's Ferrari period does seem to have broken him somewhat compared to his RBR days and apart from flashes of his old self his time at Aston Martin seems to be a waste for me especially as he could've had a Red Bull return in '21/'22 albeit as #2 to Max Verstappen. Last week at the French GP Vettel said he wasn't retiring but was looking forward to next year with Aston Martin ! Can't believe a word that drivers say as now he is retiring. I didn't like Seb when he was at Red Bull with Mark Webber then Ricciardo. Webber should have won more races there.
There was no friendship between them then.
He certainly had talent winning four world championships. I did enjoy in the later years when he was willing to speak up when he thought something was wrong or the weather was too dangerous to drive etc. I enjoyed the Canadian 2019 race where he swapped over the 1 and 2 markers at the end placing 1 in front of his car as he would have won except for a penalty.

Well I must admit I didn't see Alonso's move to Aston Martin coming and on current form that's him doomed to be a back of the grid driver for what's left of his career. I would have liked him to have won another race as he is certainly quick enough and has impressed on his return. Alonso moving on has indirectly caused the contract wrangling between Alpine, McClaren and Piastri. Where does all this leave Riccardo ?

Yeah the Alonso move is interesting but for me unless something is up their sleeve I can't see Aston Martin offering anything more that Alpine do or could do unless there's been a mutual parting of the waves here. Don't get me wrong I like Alonso but he's made some big, glaring and questionable errors since his last WDC in '06, some bad luck others... Unless AM suddenly hit the front I think Fernando's in the twilight of his career maybe time for him to move on?

Del the rumour is McLaren may pay Ricciardo not to drive next season like Ferrari did with Kimi in 2010. Whether Danny accepts that?

Thanks D.E. I don't think that would be too bad for Daniel compared to the boot. I hope he can come back and rediscover his form. As for Alonso, he moved on because Alpine wanted a rolling one year deal and Aston Martin offered two years.

For me it's a shame Fernando never got a crack at Red Bull in say 2008 after the McLaren season went... I know why he was not taken on at that time but with what was getting built up there and the nous of Adrian Newey I reckon he could've done better there in say 2-3 seasons than what he achieved at Ferrari, then what happened later on his McLaren return. Daniel Ricciardo's situation is odd obviously he's not driving at his best (for McLaren) and like Alonso he's a great driver who has made some questionable decisions but whether he can find that spark again even with another team only he alone knows. Perhaps like Kimi and Ferrari Danny being paid off and able to run in Indy or Supercars in Aus for a year might not be a bad thing before heading back to F1 refreshed. A new generation is emerging and Alonso and Ricciardo as much as I like them may need to make way for them, even Hamilton may not be safe in all this in the next few years too.

In F1 you have to be in the right place at the right time sometimes. Alonso is easily as good as Vettel at his peak if not better. You can't judge simply on how many titles some have won. If he was in the Red Bull he would have been on six titles no doubt.

No surprises really in this ongoing saga. Is Daniel the latest driver who doesn't fare well after reg changes leave them not as comfortable with the current car ? Or is he on a downward trajectory in his career ? I'd like to see him at another team and I hope he gets an Alpine seat then beats a McLaren here or there. I've nothing against McLaren BTW just think it would be an interesting twist in this story.
