I have been eagerly anticipating this season due to the new regs. The drama of last season is annoyingly hanging around proceedings but I hope the action from these new cars will blow all that away. Watched quali and it threw up some interesting results.

Here's to a great season and for me it would be nice if Ferrari, McLaren, Alpine and others are close and closing in on Mercedes and Red Bull and give us a good fight this season for the right reasons.

I am about to watch the replay. A 1am live start Monday morning (Aust. time) doesn't work well on a work day. The first race of the year is always so exciting.

I totally enjoyed the race at Bahrain. These new cars have certainly changed the dynamics. The battle between Verstappen and Leclerc was interesting. The racing between the pair showed how these 2022 designs were able to get close and battle. The Ferrari was able to defend well and Verstappen was able to launch an attack from quite some distance behind.
Great to see Haas do well and Bottas had a good weekend. McLaren seem to be the early losers and their car looks to be a bit of a dog. Roll on Saudi.

I think what we want from the 2022 changes is to change the way F1 has been for the last 20-25 years where one team is totally dominant through fair or fowl means for a considerable period and at best you've got another team close at the start then fades away - Ferrari after Schumacher is a good example, or the other teams totally blown out of the water from race one. Even with these rule changes the dominant teams with the most resources will still rule the roost and find a way to be ahead (legal or illegal) but at least if we can get say the best 5-7 drivers challenging for wins and not say one driver wins for 80% of the season (I include Schumi and Vettel as much as Hamilton in that) it'll do the job for me a bit like F1 used to be like when I first watched and liked it. Even then a Brabham, McLaren, Renault or Williams would have a upper hand for one or more seasons. Yes a good race in Bahrain and Haas must be counting their blessings they've resigned Magnussen who perhaps can take some of this form on for the rest of the season. Here's quali rundown from an eventful (lets say) Saudi... don't view if you're catching up or not seen it yet. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/60888825

I thought it was another entertaining race with plenty of movement throughout the top ten. The McLaren's seemed to improve a little this week however Mercedes were surprisingly no closer to solving their set up issues. George Russell made the best of it in that team, being the better of their two drivers . Ferrari and Red Bull are the class of the field at this early stage, but I expect other tracks and upgrades to come into play soon. This should stir the racing and the result some more. Well done Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds for creating this set of reg's. They seem to be working as intended thus far. Roll on Australia.

Finally it is Melbourne's turn ! I last bought a race tshirt at Albert Park race track back in 2019. I usually go to the race every second year and enjoy four days of fan day, practice, qualifying and race day. I won't be going this year as the Fangio grandstand allocation was sold in record time and that is my favourite stand. Usually before Christmas I check out what seat combinations over the days are free. Last time in 2019 I sat in a different grandstand each day with a prechosen seat. This year grandstand tickets went fast. They even built five new grandstands this year.
Both Saturday and Sunday Park Pass ticket allocations have exhausted for the first time in the history of the event in Melbourne. They are the general ground standing room tickets which in the 'old' days in 2019 you could buy on the day.
Wow ! People have really missed their F1 racing in Melbourne and the media claim that the 'Drive to Survive' series has made more people keen to be spectators at the track.
That's fine as I will be glued to the all day coverage on the local tv channel.
The first two races for the season have been amazing. I love that Ferrari has finally got a decent car and Charles Leclerc has more experience and confidence in his and his car's ability. The tussle between he and Max Verstappen so far has been brains as much as skills. I believe that Mercedes will work out the glitches in their car. Lewis will eventually be vying for a podium. Seeing Kevin Magnussen back to Haas and winning points was a surprise and quite heart warming to hear his enthusiasm back at his old team.
Four DRS zones will be in operation for the first time so one more than previous tracks. Less turns on the track down to 14 and widening of track by 2-3 metres in some sections, 7 metres wider at turn 6 !
Thursday Fan Day looked like a success.
Valtteri Bottas seems super happy at Alfa Romeo. He posted a pic in Melbourne when he arrived here and visited one of our major football clubs (Richmond) to have a kick of the footy. I suppose he is finally No. 1 driver at his team and he seems to be having fun. So here's hoping for real competition between many and plenty of excitement but also a safe race. And if McLaren could rejuvenate Dan Ricciardo's car into a podium place, that would be a remarkable Melbourne race.
