This has just been added to Britbox so I’m giving it a try. I have no idea how it was received then (although there seems to be a fair amount of it) nor how it has aged, as it were, but so far it is retaining my interest. Just wondered if any of you had thoughts either way? I do love seeing England in the 80s on screen, whatever I’m watching. I can’t even tell you why, it just feels like home, even though I’ve never been there.

TBH, Alex, I never really watched it for some reason. Don't know why, I saw little bits here and there but didn't get into it. Might give it another try, if it's on iPlayer or YouTube.
It's the bit of the 80s I don't dislike, the first few years, up to 83, so I like seeing that period too.

I seem to remember The Gentle Touch was on in the LWT London region at apx 8pm on a Saturday. I used to watch it here and there before repeats of the Professionals at 9pm. I don't think I've seen one since the 80s and can't remember too much about it. One to look back on at some point. Thanks Alex.

Annie and I used to watch The Gentle Touch when it was first broadcast. It was regular viewing for us and I doubt that we missed an episode. Although it was repeated a year or so ago on Talking Pictures channel and I recorded them all I've not got around to watching them again as yet. They've probably been edited to allow for the extra advert break but I will start watching them again once I've finished rewatching Randall And Hopkirk.
I must admit that I can't remember any of the episodes as it has been so long since they were first broadcast, the only thing that I can remember was that Jill Gascoine's character name was Maggie Forbes and that she was widowed in the first episode.
Sam.

It was on talkingpicturestv a while ago, some episodes I thought were interesting, any show told from a woman's perspective is going to be a change from the usual cop show.
Some of the attitudes date the show, one storyline deals with Maggie Forbes discovering her son ( she lives with a teenage son ) has watched a p**n film with his friends, her horrified reaction now seems completely overblown.
Some good writers of the time worked on the show, Roger Marshall, Tony Hoare & PJ Hammond among them. In fact one of the stories by Roger Marshall, 'Menaces' from series 2, is a remake of The Sweeney episode 'Feet Of Clay' & even features the same lead actor Joss Ackland.
Definitely worth watching.

This is a show I have never watched but it does look quite interesting...
It's great to know that there are still many, many classic television shows that I've yet to investigate!
With regards to 'The Gentle Touch' it seems like it certainly made an impact when first shown (so much so it got the spin off show C.A.TS. Eyes).

I watched the first episode in YouTube today, and, to be honest, it didn't really grab me. I seem to vaguely recollect thinking along the same lines in 1980 when I caught bits of it.
I might try a couple more to see if it picks up.

I remember watching a few episodes but just because they were on rather than because I was attracted to the show.
I was attracted to Jill Gascoine mind.

I remember watching a few episodes but just because they were on rather than because I was attracted to the show. I was attracted to Jill Gascoine mind. She's not too bad as Mrs Antrobus in the Taggart episode with John Hannah 'Evil Eye' too. Wasn't too drawn to Gentle Touch like some of the other stuff TPTV has shown recently but it's not bad and there's much worse than it around too.
