Well whatever he was doing he kept it on the road until about '89! Not that I've got a picture of of it, but patching holes in the bodywork with fibreglass. Unreal , That K reg Marina looks clapped out here Well whatever he was doing he kept it on the road until about '89! Not that I've got a picture of of it, but patching holes in the bodywork with fibreglass. Fibreglass? I thought the thing of the 70s was to fill the hole with newspaper (then you can date when the work was done), and then paste over it with filler...... I did this on a Fiesta outer sill, It was only a 10p sized hole.

This was a common sight and sound except for Japanese car owners in the 70s.

The back street used car lots from back in the day with the inevitable strings of bunting... Where's Arthur & Terry?

Looks like an Australian forecourt, going by the cars, one of each from that country, Chrysler, Holden Kingswood in the middle and a Ford Falcon XA on the right.
The King Kong pic below I thought for a second, that was Michael Caine in the photo lol!!

Leaf spring Jack up kits were another disappearance. They were extended spring shackles so you could raise the rear of the car, they used to upset the handling and make the car drive badly in corners.
They disappeared for the simple reason that quite a lot of (but not all) the next generation of cars to reach banger status didn't have leaf springs at the back (Mark 3 Cortina, HB/HC Viva, FD Victor, Avenger)

Well the guy in the photo was called Mike. I know his son who said that if his dad went to London, foreign tourists had been known to approach him thinking he was Michael Caine. Rather than disappoint them he would occasionally oblige with an autograph.
