Did anyone watch the BBC 2 Series The Rock And Roll Years ,where several of that particular years hits were cut with major current affairs ? I think it covered the 60s and 70s and growing up this was an interesting way to learn about modern history and to see some of the artists my parents grew up with. Previously I'd only ever heard these artists on record. Hope the series gets a replay.

Did anyone watch The Rock And Roll Years where each years music was cut with major current affairs. Great series It used to be a BBC2 show in tbe 80s. Hope they get a replay. I remember 'The Rock And Roll Years' now you've mentioned them Del!
Didn't it used to go out at 7pm on a Friday or something in the early/mid '90's? IIRC I think they used to feature the sounds and sights of the particular year they looked at too. Not essential viewing but a good presentation none the less.

If you are lucky - you'll catch something on BBC4.
I had them all on VHS. I recently (pre Thunderstorm) transferred them to DVD. I'll dig them out and watch them properly.

Yes I remember watching the Rock and Roll years. From memory it was on in about the mid 80s originally and it started with, I think, about 1955 or 56, the first series ran up until the early 60s

The original 80s series (1985-87) concentrated on the period from 1956 (Elvis Presley's breakthrough) to 1980 (the death of John Lennon). In 1994 they brought out another series looking at 1981-89. Some good news, there are quite a few available on YouTube. Sadly the sound quality isn't amazing but pleased they're on there Hopefully they will be broadcast again. Sort it out BBC4 or even TPTV Rock'n'Roll Years

Sort it out BBC4 or even TPTV Rock'n'Roll YearsI have them on DVD - and pretty good quality (having learned a little about Video restoration!). If you want a copy, I can throw one together at some point.
Will have a look at which episodes they are.

I saw some episodes on tv last year or earlier, can't remember which channel they were shown on. Didn't realise it began as early as 1985.
