As I changed channels to the Now 80s channel last night I discovered that this was playing, I had forgotten that it even existed. Pretty dire as cover versions go and the two blokes wouldn't have looked out of place in the Village People. It may be up someone's street but certainly not mine. Such a shame that there was no prior warning before hitting that <channel up> button! Sam.

But at least you warned us Sam!
Yes, I'd forgotten about this as well. Wasn't it one of those tracks that always seemed to feature on TOTP during the Jonathan King loafs around in the USA spot?
One has to go straight to the Andy Williams version for a bit of palate cleansing!

Here's another shocker that I'd forgotten about until it appeared on Youtube earlier: There have been numerous covers of the song but for me this one plunges the depths. For the best version see my post in the "Cover versions you prefer" thread >>> Here <<<Sam

Not really a serious contender, but I found this today which I vaguely remember hearing on the radio at the time, possibly recorded for Noel Edmond's Sunday show in the early 80s. Some might argue that it belongs in the "Covers that were better than the original.." section.
Steady on now Pal, eh?

.... Some might argue that it belongs in the "Covers that were better than the original.." section. I'm not sure who that would be but in my opinion it definitely belongs this thread, I only managed 34 seconds of it. Sam.

Whilst I really enjoy watching the Now 80s music channel the downside is that it chucks up covers like this:
Pseudo Echo - Funkytown
While the original may not be the best track going it does bring back memories our 1980 summer holiday where Annie joined me and my parents Vic and Ruth down in Barnstable, Devon. For that reason alone I have fond memories of:
Lipps Inc. - Funkytown (Warning: this is the uncensored version of the video)

I like the Lipps Inc track, it was one of those which you heard all the time in the summer of 1980.
PS, like the video too Sam!😀

Flicking through the music channels last night this cropped up:
Cascada - Because The Night
Not my cup of rosie-lea at all so I had to cleanse the tune going through my swede this morning by playing the original release:
Patti Smith Group - Because The Night
Strictly speaking the Patti Smith Group's release wasn't the original because Bruce Springsteen had recorded a demo version first however he'd not completed the lyrics before giving the song to Patti Smith (according to Wiki).
I'm also thankful that Bruce Springsteen didn't release a version!

Can't stand those p***poor Dance cover versions which have knocked around for the last 20 or so years. Ironically the 'producers' of that tosh could do something much better if they really wanted too!
