On Sunday (the last sunny day in April) I went on a wander around Melbourne. The plan was to visit a South East Asian festival in the Docklands area (pic with the old tram) but while on the way there, walking along Southbank, there was a small pop up Mercedes car show. A very small car show! Southbank is a popular area on weekends because of the restaurants, casino, shops along there and it is close to Flinders St station so easy to get there. It can get quite crowded but good atmosphere. Surprisingly the Docklands area is supposed to be similar and was built near Marvel stadium but it always feels deserted. There are more apartments than shops and cafes there these days.

Nice orange Mark 1 Escort today. Didn't get a great look as it was going the opposite way to me, on the A560 near Altrincham. It looked to be a go faster version, possibly a Mexico, but looked original, ie, not a messed about 1300 deluxe

Some nice cars there Villain, thanks for posting. I've always like the Stratos right from seeing the Chequered Flag Stratos back in the very early '70s. I know the one in the pics is a replica but I'd be happy with one, maybe no in that blue though. Sam.

Some nice cars there Villain, thanks for posting. I've always like the Stratos right from seeing the Chequered Flag Stratos back in the very early '70s. I know the one in the pics is a replica but I'd be happy with one, maybe no in that blue though. Sam. Cheers Sam. Most of the Stratos replicas around today are much better cars overall than the '70s originals which are now worth around half a million quid each, if you can find one for sale that is. It's quite ironic in a way, as even before the production run finished in '74 the were giving them away (literally!) as hardly anyone wanted them. Easy ways to spot a replica are that a lot of them are RHD (all the originals left the Bertone factory in LHD), the panel gaps are actually far superior to the originals and most of them have Alfa Romeo engines rather than the Ferrari Dino of the originals. There's also a subtle difference between the two main makes of reps - the Hawk version has the correct twin fuel fillers whereas the Lister-Bell version only has one filler cap on the nearside rear wing. Both are brilliant cars though. This build thread of a Lister-Bell Stratos on pistonheads gives an idea of just how good they are... www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=47&t=1807417I'd love one myself but apparently the three year waiting list has now been closed, so they're not taking any more orders at the moment. Two today, a red Triumph Herald convertible and a Morris Minor traveller, J regd, white and it had the correct reflective plates too! Not classic, but a bloke I work with has a 3 series BMW convertible and he let me have a brief go in it on the industrial estate at the end of the shift!😀

I saw a mid '80's Saab 90 yesterday but was sadly driving at the time so couldn't snap it, it seemed used daily but it was a tidy example of something very rare these days.

A couple of rarities yesterday on the way home from work, sadly no photos as I was driving - a red Bristol Beaufighter on the M6 and a metallic bronze bronze Alfa Romeo Montreal parked outside the body shop just round the corner from my work place. Villain
