It has the same look/feel as Auf Wiedersehen Pet, another Central production from the same period. Executive produced by Ted Childs I noticed. Thought the punk group stuff was a bit strange Agree about having the same look/feel as Auf. Something friendly about it.

It has the same look/feel as Auf Wiedersehen Pet, another Central production from the same period. Executive produced by Ted Childs I noticed. Thought the punk group stuff was a bit strange Agree about having the same look/feel as Auf. Something friendly about it. At the time - Ted Childs was Controller of Drama at "Central" - and also in charge of "Central Films" (the Euston Films style offshoot).
The early "Boons" were shot in Birmingham, with interiors inside studios. External shots were done on 16mm.
Later on - the series moved to Nottingham; taken out of the studios and shot totally on 16mm. I did dailies on a few during the early 90s- and visited such luxury locations as "Rock City" in Nottingham (then run by a Gangster who had two henchmen with him everywhere he went), Radford and St Annes in (Nottinghams equivalent to Wandsworth, Peckham or Brixton).
Micheal Elphick had a flat at the top on Derby Road, which he stopped in when working in Nottingham - a mate owns the cinema down the road and Micheal used to visit quite often. It was at this cinema that Elphick was trained as a Projectionist (as part of a backstory). The Chief Projectionist who trained him (critical of everyone) - said that Elphick was the most charming, friendly person he had ever met.
My mates other Cinema in Ilkeston (Scala) - also features in the "Boon" 1992 titles.
The "Boon & Crawford" building sign is still at Nottingham, bolted to the prop store wall at the old TV studios (now owned by the University)
Have some pics somewhere!

Great info there Sparky.
I've recently been watching the later Nottingham series and quite enjoying it to be honest.

Some Boon pictures....
The obligatory Publicity one....
(L-R) Leslie-Anne Sharpe - David Daker - Micheal Elphic - Neil Morrissey
From the Central TV "Staff Magazine". Circa 1987/8.
This from the Prop Store at Central TV studios on Lenton Lane, in Nottingham.
Now an additional campus for Nottingham University. The largest studio is still hired out for things like "Question Time" and space for film production.
