I've never watched a single epispde of Boon Arthur. That's probably because I used to do a lot of shift work in the eighties and ninties. Perhaps I'll give it a go sometime, maybe on catchup. Thank's for the info' Charles.

Like many other programmes, the first 2-3 series were quite good, then it tailed off

Caught about fifteen minutes of the 8am episode this morning, the 'video taped' quality was plain to see and very much of its time. Enjoyed it though, haven't watched any since they were first shown That poor Mk3 Cortina looked as though it had seen better days! Villain

It has the same look/feel as Auf Wiedersehen Pet, another Central production from the same period. Executive produced by Ted Childs I noticed. Thought the punk group stuff was a bit strange

I did have the first series on DVD but it didn't seem to be as good as I remembered it back in 1986, so I sold it on eBay... eventually! Vi

I haven't seen this since it was originally on. From memory, the first one or two series were where Ken (Michael Elphick) was a kind of troubleshooter, then it moved on to him being a private eye. I seem to remember him being based at a hotel from about possibly the second or third, and that seemed to be the best bit of the programme.
Later it moved from Birmingham to Nottingham, and it went downhill at that point

Later it moved from Birmingham to Nottingham, and it went downhill at that point The first series is where Ken and Harry "Retire" from the Fire Service, Harry buys a Hotel in Birmingham (Washwood Heath in Reality) and Ken has ideas of running a Market garden type place in the country (Chaddesley Corbett) but it doesn't really work out. He spends more time at the Hotel doing jobs for people and as you say Trouble shooting. Some good story lines. The second series, Harry buys another hotel in Birmingham, Edgbaston this time and this is where Ken Rents a room and out buildings to run his Despatch firm, Texas Rangers. Series 2 to me was the best Boon got, There were better story lines and filming was all done on Location unlike Series 1 where it looks like more sets were used. Some good guest stars appear in it too, Max Deller (Dudley Sutton) for one playing a Crook as usual Series 3 was OK but from the limited number of later series I've seen I think it went a bit downward too. Maybe I should give it a go ? I was going to start a thread on Boon but you beat me to it Arthur. I've always been a big fan of the Early series and Liked the Character of Ken played well by Michael Elphick. Great series If you're into Classic Motorbikes too.

Strange how Michael Elphick came to front several tv series, no doubt he had a good face & voice & could act but he seems an unlikely choice as a heroic lead given that he usually played bad guys & his looks had taken a bit of a battering. Just before Boon he played the lead in a Central sitcom called 'Pull The Other One' ( can't find any info about this forgotten show ) & later there was 'Three Up Two Down'.

He also played the title role in Private Shulz. I must admit I haven't really watched it but I've been told it's very good.
I like three up two down also.
I think he played the character of Ken Boon very well and I've often wondered if Michael was a bit like the character in real life ?
You're right about series one having an Auf Pet feel about it Arthur. I watched Box 13 the other night and know what you mean.
