Concurred. The only male voices to rival Matt are Dean Martin & Nat King Cole. All three of them sang so effortlessly and could hold an open up a note like it was nothing. Similarly Karen Carpenter, aside from being a great drummer, had a voice of such purity. John Lennon was a fan and told her he thought she had a fabulous voice when they met at a restaurant in California.

Matt Monro and Karen Carpenter are very much the creme de la creme. Karen was truly a gifted, gifted singer, whose sorrows and desires to be loved coloured all her songs and touched something in everyone who heard her. When Karen sings, you stop and listen.
Just to add, the quality of music in this thread is astounding.

Changing the pace slightly here's Trash by Oldham based band The Whip. I was a bit 50/50 about this bunch until a couple of years ago when I (sort of) got them. Mind you they've been a bit inactive since 2013.

I'm enjoying it as much as you are Windy
While driving around Fenchurch in the Quattro during the dinner break today, I had this absolute peach of a tune playing.
The song is called X Y Patrol and is by Manfred Schoof & Uwe Buschkotter (Ask Esther Rantzen to say that (or try saying it yourself with a trap full of pearly whites)

Some good old Cabaret Voltaire. I added this track to a music video DVD I made recently.

I was doing a search for something on the Internet, and for some reason this came up. No idea how as it's totally unrelated to what I was looking for. Anyway, I'm glad it did. It's the original recording of the song before Bowie gave it away to a hard-up Mott The Hoople :-

A true Glam Rock anthem. Great find Windy
To be fair, Ian Hunter and the team did a brilliant job with it. I think it saved MTH from disbanding in 1972.

Great find indeed Winds I was aware of the history with the track, but I've never heard Bowie's version. It is very surprising that the arrangement was pretty much the same as the Mott The Hoople version. Basically Bowie had it all completed really.

That is excellent Gene, thanks for posting that. Hard to beat a spot of '60s / '70s instrumental, especially in the motor (Duly bookmarked in favourites, along with lots of similar goodies). I recently bought the CD of this, it's rather good... The great ting about these youtube clips is following the links and discovering something for the first time, yet at the same time they often have a familiar feel to them. All good stuff. Villain

Also on constant 'rinse and repeat' in our house...
Fire up the Jensen Interceptor and go for a long drive with this wafting from the Moto-Rola Stereo...
