Another very good ITC series made between 1965-66,starring John Gregson and Alexander Davion.
I bought the boxset for this as it came recommended and its very good, only managed to watch a few episodes so far but the 1st episode with Derren Nesbitt and John Hurt as escaped convicts is a very good opener to the series.
Id be interested in others opinions on this series

I did have the Gideon's Way set but sold it recently ( business isn't good at the Barley Mow ). Good show for its time with some documentary like location filming & lots of familiar actors though it didn't really grab me enough to keep watching episodes. Thought the Nesbitt/Hurt ep was good, also one featuring George Cole as an arsonist!
You need to be Steve Austin to read the booklet that comes with the dvd set, it's printed in tiny text!

I have the series, and its quite deep drama for the time, very gritty too and have watched the boxed set twice now, so not bad and an interesting look at 1964/65 London which is almost unrecognisable now. A bit of action here and there, and although some episodes were a bit slow, others are like a 60's Sweeney notably the one with John Hurt and Derren Nesbitt as escaped cons and one with Mike Pratt as the leader of a car stealing ring.

Prior to Gideon's Way in 1958 there was the film 'Gideon's Day' featuring Jack Hawkins as George Gideon & unusually it was directed by John Ford, 2 years after he made the film he is best known for 'The Searchers'.

All 26 episodes of this police drama seem to be available on You Tube. I have watched a few over the holiday period, including this one with George Cole playing an arsonist.

I watched these about seven or eight years ago, when a workmate loaned me the DVD set of Gideon's Way. I wonder whatever happened to the bloke who played his sidekick Alexander Davion ? I've only ever seen him in one other production.
Charles.

Apparently he's still with us, Charles. Born in 1929 in Paris, he's had parts in many of our favourite TV shows, such as Shoestring, The Professionals, Van der Valk and UFO. He shares a birthday with my dear old mum Vi

Thanks Vi. Glad to hear that. It's a pity John Gregson died so young. About ten years after he made Gideons Way. I like John in the old British films. He left a young family when he died.
Charles.

Watching the 1973 Christmas edition of Steptoe and Son, Albert puts a hat on the skeleton & a cigar in its mouth & says "there you are, John Gregson". I wasn't sure what he meant by that so I looked at Gregson's imdb page & it mentions that he appeared in tv ads for Hamlet cigars.
