After having a long weekend away in Dorset, on my route back home we diverted through the New Forest, home to the Beaulieu Motor Museum. Having been to Beaulieu a number of times I had become aware of another museum as mentioned above.
I don't know how many members on here are or have been bikers, or even how many would have heard of Sammy Miller? I've known of him for many many years but only thought he rode trials bikes. This museum was both an education of the man himself through all the different types of bikes he competed on but also a surprise that he wasn't as well known as other biking stars of years gone by. His trophy cabinet contains over 1,300 trophies which is a great mark of his achievements.
However, only part of the museum is dedicated to Sammy as the remainder is a thorough history of motorbikes through the ages from late 19th century bikes right up to modern day with many being restored by Sammy himself and his team in the museum workshops. In fact Sammy was clearly visible inside the workshops despite them not being open to visitors.
The museum is very well laid out with various 'halls' dedicated to different types of bikes, and can be seen on the website: sammymiller.co.uk/
I will post some pictures later of some of the bikes once I've downloaded them from the camera.
Sam.

Though I'm not a bike fan, that does look like an impressive collection there Sam. The name Sammy Miller rang a bell as soon as I saw it. Is this anything to do with the chant "Introducing Sammy Miller" that used to echo around Santa Pod in the 70's ?

Is this anything to do with the chant "Introducing Sammy Miller" that used to echo around Santa Pod in the 70's ? Gene. It certainly is an impressive collection: even Annie was getting closer to the bikes and not wanting to miss looking over them. The quality of some of the restorations is astounding. It has to be said that even the museum building itself underwent a major transformation as there were pictures of it as an old run-down and decaying series of farm buildings. You'd never think so now!
Not sure about the Santa Pod chant though, I wasn't aware of that.
Anyhow, the first batch of pictures which are 70's and 80's bikes:
1979 Honda CBX1000 - 1000cc four stroke six cylinder:
1976 Kawasaki KH250 - 250cc two stroke triple:
1982 Suzuki GSX1100 Katana - 1100cc four stroke four cylinder:
1980 Benelli 254 - 250cc four stroke four cylinder:
1970 Harley Davidson XR750TT - 750cc four stroke V-twin:
1973 Rickman Metisse - 650cc Triumph four stroke twin cylinder:
1980 Kawasaki KR500 (ridden by Kork Ballington) - 500cc two stroke square four:
1980 Suzuki RG500 - 500cc two stroke square four:
More to follow...
