Well, some of you may have noticed from the Forum Information & Statistics panel at the bottom of the main page, that today, 4:3tv is 1 year old!
First and foremost, I’d like to say a huge thanks to Sam Tyler who is not only a bloody good copper, but is also a bloody good mate. It’s made working behind the scenes here so much easier to have him alongside.
Thanks Sam
When me & Sam set up this forum a year ago today, we honestly had no idea how it would go. Neither of us had any idea that it would grow as quickly as it has. Nor did we expect to have as many contributing members as we have already. It has been a real pleasure for me personally to bring old friends together as a group to discuss all and everything retro. It’s equally rewarding when we get new members joining up after seeing us at the top of Google searches.
The figures speak for themselves.

As I’m sure some of you will be fully aware, some forums as a rule are breeding grounds for keyboard warriors who are intent on causing unrest in the community. Thankfully, 4:3tv has proven the exception to that rule and has been 100% animosity free. It is a real pleasure to log in and read what everyone has to say. I have looked around quite a few “retro” forums over the past 12 months and I can honestly say that I think we are head and shoulders above what anyone else is offering. The beauty of 4:3tv is its diversity. We are not constrained to a single film, tv show, band, or model of car. The quality of some of the posts on here has been staggering.
For more years than I care to remember, me & Sam have sat in pubs, drinking pint after pint, single malt after single malt, discussing what we think would work and what wouldn’t work in a forum. We both learnt a lot from previous forum experiences too so had a very clear idea of what we did and didn’t want. 4:3tv is the end result of all that experience drunken chat.
At this point I’d also like to say a big thanks to both Del Boy & The Saint – our resident Moderator Team. They do a lot of moderating work behind the scenes which goes unnoticed but is vital to keep things neat and tidy. Sam & I simply wouldn’t have the time to do it all ourselves so Del & Saint are invaluable to us. Thanks lads & keep up the good work
There have been some minor improvements to the forum over the past 12 months, with a few new features being programmed in and new sections added from time to time. We won’t rest at that though. We are constantly discussing new ideas for 4:3tv and the direction in which we want it to go. We have some fantastic ideas that will benefit you all in time. In fact, there will be a major upgrade to the whole forum system at some point in the near future. The upgrade means a massive amount of reprogramming and work behind the scenes, but the results will be stunning. Lots of new features and on the whole a much more user friendly experience. The transition should be seamless to you as members though as all the work will be done offline and only switched over once everything is working 100%.
Finally, and no less important, a big big thank you to all our members. It is the quality of your input on 4:3tv that has helped make it the success it has been so far. Long may it continue.
