Brilliant piece of TV. Saw this a few years ago. It was a toss-up between this or the Sweeney movie starring Ray Winstone. I made a great choice by choosing this instead and it was worth it. Superb performances and the whole series revealed the corruption that was rife in the justice system, including the police and the courts. By the end, you could relate to Lynn as he had been fitted up and was facing a long stretch but soon got used to it. I think Pyle deserved a spin-off but Derek Martin went on to play the boss in The Chinese Detective.

It's well worth a spin for it's portrayal of the corrupt cop/working villain/career criminal/criminal code relationships and betrayal Law and Order shows. Well acted by people who sadly got marooned in soaps too. Well worth a watch Del.

Coincidentally I've just finished reading G.F. Newman's 'The Nation's Health', I reserved it from the library. The novel was made into a 4 part tv serial for Channel 4 in 1983 by the same people who did Law And Order. Like L&O it follows various interwoven characters, this time it's an indictment of the NHS & how we treat people once they become ill or infirm. If the idea of watching 4 ninety minute plays about the NHS seems depressing, yes it is, but it's also a brilliant piece of tv that will repay the time you spend watching it.

Is it as hard hitting as Law & Order exposing any shocking practice?

Yes it is Del, more disturbing than L&O as it deals with life & death ( usually death ), but I won't mention too much about it in case you want to watch it. It's pretty grim stuff at times. Forgot to mention that one of the featured characters is played by the lovely Oona Kirsch who plays Wayne's friend Heidi in Auf Wiedersehen Pet, she was also in an Only Fools episode. She has a topless scene in it

First broadcast on 6th April 1978, so this makes it the 40th anniversary showing. Last shown on BBC4 in 2009 which was when I first saw it.

Peter Dean is currently one of the 'celebs' on the BBC reality show 'The Real Marigold Hotel'. The only other time I've seen him on tv since Eastenders has been an edition of 'Pointless Celebrities'. If you fancy seeing him interact in India with Sid Little, Susan George, Stephanie Beacham & The Krankies, this is the show for you
