Just watched quali myself. Not the worst but it's Q3 where it all goes Pete Tong. Why not have it like this in Q1 & Q2 but have the 10 minute shoot out as before in Q3? Also Lewis did say something interesting about why not have different forms of Quali throughout the season. A race with pre 2002 rules and a race with a single lap and a race with the previous shootout would be interesting... An idea Bernie! I doubt we'll ever go back to pre 2002 or single lap qualifying because the broadcasters like the Q1, Q2 and Q3 format as it allows them time slots for commercial breaks.

The best sports are the simplest ones; why make it complicated? Qualifying worked fine and I didn't know it needed tweaking. It's the race day that needs sorting. Remove driver aids, make the cars less aero dynamic so cars can overtake. Having mandatory tyre stops/changes etc doesn't help either. I agree. I don't like the things that make the racing artificial. F1 should be about the winner being the quickest in a technically perfect car. We don't need DRS, disintegrating tyres, compulsory pit stops, etc.

Agree with everything Steve/Windy have put here. Stop manipulating F1 and lets have the best teams/drivers go flat out!

Fantastic start to the F1 season today in Australia. {Spoiler Alert - Click Here To Reveal} After an awful start for Lewis Hamilton, he found himself back down in 7th place. By contrast, Vettel had a magic start and catapulted off into the lead, followed reasonably closely by Rosberg. Raikkonen slotting into third place, it looked set for a good race ahead. Just when Ferrari must have thought they had the race in the bag, the race was red flagged following what I think was one of the biggest and nastiest crashes I've seen for many years. Fernando Alonso was closely following Esteban Gutierrez when the latter appeared to brake earlier than expected for a corner, with Alonso in his slip stream at 300kph. Clipping the rear of Haas car, Fernando hit the barriers and continued into the gravel before barrel rolling into the wall. It was a heart stopping moment and for a split second I feared the worst. Just a few moments later, I was immensely relieved to see Fernando clamber out of the car and walk away - meeting briefly with the concerned Gutierrez who had gone over to see if he was OK. The incident (which was later ruled to be a "racing incident" by the stewards), and resulting red flag threw the whole race apart. All cars back in the pit lane had the opportunity to change tyres, but the front runners didn't. This left Rosberg & Hamilton on Mediums, and Vettel in the lead with the faster suspersoft tyres. This in turn meant that Vettel would have to stop again, while the Mercedes drivers did not. After Vettel stopped for his final set of tyres, he was very quick to catch back up with Hamilton, who was now in 2nd place. However, the German could not find a way around the Englishman and in his frustration, made a mistake and ran wide at the last but one corner. That was game over. 1: Rosberg 2: Hamilton 3: Vettel The podium was a pleasure to watch with all drivers appearing to get on quite well. Vettel I feel has matured more as an ex-world champion than he ever did at Red Bull. He was in great spirits despite handing the win to Mercedes today with the wrong strategy and the fact that the red flag didn't help him at all. Overall, I'm looking forward to Bahrain more than I thought I would be. I think this could be one of the best seasons for a few years.

Excellent day Sunday March 20 I took less pics today, did more watching. Just a few. Much better weather My view of this photo moment was behind them so I 'nicked' this one off the vid screen. Hamilton Vettel The spectacle of the grid is truly amazing. Daniel Ricciardo Daniil Kvyat for Red Bull retired very early It was an uncertain result as the race progressed so very exciting for the crowd to watch. Gutierrez and Alonso's shocking accident, Kvyat's early departure (remember we are very Red Bull focused in Australia), Raikkonen's car on fire in the pits, and the real challenge by Vettel for position. Vettel poured champagne over Mark Webber who was interviewing Rosenberg. Hmm no love lost between those two ex Red Bull drivers ! Great day. Good start to the season.

Excellent pics again Batgirl. I think you had a fantastic view of what was going on. The pits were busy, especially with the red flag incident.
Some good racing through the field with Ferrari closer to Mercedes on pace The field in general seems a bit closer & the addition of a 3rd tyre compound has opened up strategy choice. Thank goodness Alonso was ok after that huge accident. Along with Verstappen’s team radio broadcasts, I found this a very enjoyable race.

Am I right in saying there was a mandatory rule change on the design of the exhaust with the intention of making the cars sound louder?
