As the title says:
I was watching the TV earlier and spotted a trailer to a new series starting on BBC2 on Tuesday.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you... "Phone Shop Idol"
I kid you not. I was hoping this was some sort of joke or spoof program that took the p*** out of other reality TV programs but alas, I was wrong.
See the BBC website about the program here: >>> Phone Shop Idol <<<
I remember years ago people complaining about continued repeats of old TV programs. But, compared with cack like this being offered, the repeats will always get my vote.
What makes me despair is that not only was there someone on damn good money proposing such a show, but to top that there was someone on even better money that took it as a good idea and agreed that it should be bought to the public!
What hope is there for the future?
Sam.

Looking at that, there isn't a lot of hope is there Sam ?
For crying out loud. How much more of this inane crap are they going to wheel out ?
The BBC website shouts "This highly entertaining six-part, characterful series....."
As Jim Royle would say, "This highly entertaining six-part, characterful series MY ARSE"

I think since the general public replaced professional entertainers tv has just steadily dumbed itself down every year. It has a knock on effect on other tv as well, old 'Fifteen To One' episodes fom the 80s/90s have been showing on Challenge & it's frightening how much more difficult the questions are compared to the new version. 'Bullseye' is another show where many of the questions are actually considerably harder than the general knowledge round on 'Celebrity Mastermind'. Just as we're becoming less healthy & more overweight due to plentiful & cheap high calorie food, our minds are getting duller with these dumbed down tv shows.
Many of these reality shows do seem like spoofs, I remember seeing a BBC3 show 'Young Butcher Of The Year' & thinking 'is this real?' There was a show on quite recently 'BBQ Champ', a barbecuing contest! TV is in such a parlour state that it makes you wistful for the days of Paul Daniels & Jimmy Tarbuck...yes, it's that bad!

Yes reality tv can plunge lower! Simply can't stand it, and was totally shocked on Saturday when I accidentally turned over on BBC 1 to the voice' and found what appeared was a very narcissistic man' in drag' attempting to sing opera or some sort lol! Can't stand these type of programs, people on they merely delude themselves! Everybody is equal in life! And regarding Bronson's comment, The tv license is just a scam and I haven't bought one now since the 90's. I will not waste my hard earned cash on such a bent organisation., I'd rather spend it on my kids. They rant about loosing money due to less people buying a tv licence these days, and that they have to save money!, and yet they pay presenters like Jonathan Ross, 6 million a year, to just insult people. Then they was the cover up with Jimmy Saville! The whole TV license campaign of the 80,s and 90's with their bullying tactics was the biggest blag! Since the Rosswell incident! Lol! Those tv detector vans were empty! And couldn't detect a Turd in a crap factory lol, the whole thing was a conspiracy and to me resembled a storyline from the X files'. :()

From what little I know about this show, it's actually more a documentary than a reality show.
The show is about a genuine mobile phone industry competition which has been running for the past 12 years, known as the iSellMobile competition. The programme follows actual competitors from every major UK retailer as they battle their way from the entry stage, through mystery shops, interviews and challenges, all the way to the big reveal at last year’s Mobile Industry Awards.
Not something that's aimed at my age group, (or people in the windmill industry) but I'm sure will be of enormous interest to many younger people.
I'll have to watch it first before passing a judgement on whether it's bad or not.

I take some of it's news output with a pinch of salt too. I've been told about the TV Licence Detector vans being a scam etc. I wouldn't want a Murdoch type to be the main broadcaster in this country though.

I wasn't going to give it the time of day. Most industries have their own competitions, awards and ceremonies but thankfully we are spared from them being televised. Plastics industry awards anyone? Maybe Starpack Industry Awards? Or even the Global Recruiter UK Industry Awards?
It all just makes me think of the 'guest publications' used in HIGNFY.
Sam.

Saw some of it, in a similar vein to 'The Choir'. Employees were being judged on their customer service skills whilst apparently being encouraged to pester customers into watching their talent show videos & voting for them. I try to buy everything online in order to avoid being pestered by shop staff. I went to SpecSavers recently & they don't so much serve you as 'process' you.
