I for one fully respect and agree with LeBon and his cohorts distancing themselves from this version of My Own Way. The Human League with DYWM has to be the pick of this week's line up. That track will never become unfashionable. Thanks for posting Windy. Gene. The Duran Duran record is too repetitive. How thin can Bad Manners stretch the funny fat man joke? I'm sure it's me, but every time I see Godley & Crème I think.... Yorkshire Ripper It's The Human League for me too - nothing else on the show impressed.

Thanks Del, Steve, DE, and Gene for your comments on Thursday’s show 17 December 1981: Presenter – Simon Bates: Broadcast BBC Four 10/06/2016 (Thanks to POPSCENE for the running order) (14) Duran Duran – “My Own Way” (2) Cliff Richard – “Daddy’s Home” (45) Chas & Dave – “Stars Over 45” (8) Godley & Crème – “Wedding Bells” (64) Brown Sauce – “I Wanna Be A Winner” (23) Rod Stewart – “Young Turks” (40) The Snowmen – “Hokey Cokey” (26) Jon & Vangelis – “I’ll Find My Way Home” (12) Status Quo – “Rock ‘N’ Roll” (1) The Human League – “Don’t You Want Me” (29) Altered Images – “I Could Be Happy” Happy Birthday to Simes, who, if he’d been born only a few weeks earlier, could have celebrated the event with an appropriate song from Altered Images when they were in the studio. Instead, he’ll just have to make do with simply being happy as the show plays out. It’s nearly Christmas, and there’s the usual sprinkling of festive novelty records decorating the charts. Having a Morry? Chas & Dave are on hand with the ideal medley for a right good “Knees Up” - When I'm Cleaning Windows, Any Old Iron, Run Rabbit, and The Laughing Policeman all included in this cockney karaoke singalong. And if that’s not enough, The Snowmen join in with the “Hokey Cokey”. Who The Snowmen actually are is a closely guarded secret, and nobody gets any credit on the Stiff record label for this classic 45. Some say it’s Ian Dury, but it’s more likely to be Jona Lewie. Chart success with the “Hokey Cokey” is not assured. Slade released a single in 1979 called “Okey Cokey” which was a flop and the record failed to chart. Black Lace released their version in 1985 and the record got to #31. The Snowmen made it to #18 before melting away and never troubling the Top 40 again – snowballs! There’s also a welcome return on tonight’s show for some familiar faces. An ex TOTPs presenter makes his one and only chart appearance, and Sue takes to the dance floor with Zoo, in a wonderfully sublime solo performance to bid us a very fond farewell.

Caught up with this episode getting ready for work this morning. Enjoyed seeing Soft Cell in the studio this time with Bedsitter. But Marc Almond... that cap very Blue Oyster Bar from that period. Also enjoyed Fun Boy Three and Duran Duran's track even if it did have the feel of a album track more so than a single - reckon EMI or whoever they were signed with back then rushed out a single for them for the Xmas market. Human League's the pick of the bunch in the episode but being a fan have seen that promo loads of times but it's still a good one from the 80's. Was indifferent to Status Quo and them generally don't really like or hate them TBH but the rest were tosh IMHO and even Julio Iglesias's faux 'latin lover' soul as s***e as it is seemed a fair bit better than that Bad Manners track. Generally don't mind em but this time they seemed **** poor awful doing a 50's rock-a-billy take on Ska which didn't work either way and made them look like pratts being honest. Leave the 50's stuff to crap bands like Coast 2 Coast etc. I'm right in saying tonight's episode is the last from 1981? I'd love the BBC to get 1982 especially as it will start to feature Electro Hip Hop from the likes of Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash etc. along with European acts mining similar territory. I reckon though the BBC will hold this back until next year (at best) can't see anything on the BBC site stating 1982 will be next soon. Thanks again to Windy for all his reviews and time taken on this too!

ROFL! Always weird seeing Xmas records or Xmas generally on the box around the middle of summer too and this episode doesn't seem to choc-a-bloc with novelty crap considering it's Xmas too.

I watched last nights 3 December 1981: Presenter – David Jensen:
Rated as follows: Get in there ! Its ok. Shocking :w***er: Wrist exerciser Rubbish .... NEXT Very good Presenter – David Jensen: Dave is steady and does a good job (34) Bad Manners – “Buona Sera” As stated above this attempt didn't work. (4) Soft Cell – “Bedsitter” Like the synth aspect of the music but the song drones on lyrically. (27) Status Quo – “Rock ‘N’ Roll” Ok, one of Quo's better efforts. (26) Duran Duran – “My Own Way” Ok, Spot on with the earlier analysis that this is an album track. (5) Diana Ross – “Why Do Fools Fall In Love?” (Zoo) Ok bit of upbeat pop. The Zoo girls were nice but i miss my Rosie (21) Godley & Crème – “Wedding Bells” Oh dear such pony from the 10cc's bearded drummer and the one looks awkward dancing. (20) Fun Boy Three – “The Lunatics ” You left The Specials ........ for this (9) The Human League – “Don’t You Want Me” Tune. Still sounds just as good today IMO. Suffers from overplay though. (1) Julio Iglesias – “Begin The Beguine” The British housewife propels the Spaniard to NO.1 but he cant be arsed to A show up to perform this dirge or B stand up in the video the lazy sod Thanks for the next rundown windy

Not quite. The 10/12/1981 episode is Jimmied, so we’ll miss Showaddywaddy and Ken Dodd in the studio (not all bad then ), and the videos for Madness – “It Must Be Love” and Adam & The Ants – “Ant Rap”. Still to come are the shows from 24/12/1981 and 31/12/1981. And then it's 1982. It feels like 1981 has been the shortest year sine 1752

Great news, and thankfully they have made the usual accompanying documentaries.
Still hate this format of two per week. It would be better if the episodes were apart in the week say Mon and Fri. Its even messed continuity up on our threads with the next program often shown before people have had time to post a review on the current show. I for one always watch it on catch up at a convenient point in the week.

24 December 1981: Presenter – David Jensen: Broadcast BBC Four 16/06/2016 (Thanks to POPSCENE for the running order) (41) Wizzard – “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday” (4) Adam & The Ants – “Ant Rap” (45) Elvis Costello & The Attractions – “Sweet Dreams” (5) Bucks Fizz – “The Land Of Make Believe” (12) The Police – “Spirits In The Material World” (26) Kool & The Gang – “Get Down On It” (Zoo) (3) Abba – “One Of Us” (20) Altered Images – “I Could Be Happy” (9) Dollar – “Mirror Mirror (Mon Amour)” (1) The Human League – “Don’t You Want Me” (47) Philip Lynott – “Yellow Pearl” David Jensen presents a Live TOTPs spectacular on Christmas Eve. For this extra special occasion, there’s festive balloons, streamers, party hats, tinsel, and a ton of neon. It’s the cataclysmic essence of 1980’s pop rolled out in a spectacular show that includes pop sensations Adam & the Ants, Bucks Fizz, Altered Images, and Dollar. There’s even an appearance from Wizzard, a band your Dad will remember from long ago, with an old Christmas favourite, and your mum will be delighted to see Abba’s latest video. It’s the most thrilling TOTPs of the year, so make sure you record the show for prosperity (record the late show so you don’t miss anything). If you only watch one TOTPs repeat this year, make it this one. And special mention as finally, at last, The Human League make a studio appearance to perform “Don’t You Want Me”. Look out for Joanne who chokes on a mouthful of Silly String ABBA September 12th 1981 arriving at Bournemouth to attend a CBS (their UK label) conference. At this time ABBA were in the middle of recording their last studio album The Visitors.
