19 November 1981: Presenter – Steve Wright: Broadcast BBC Four 02/06/2016 (Thanks to POPSCENE for the running order) If anyone is still watching these TOTPs reruns, you may feel a little déjà vu in this episode. Because of a DLT Yewtree’d show, tonight’s TOTPs opening act is exactly the same as we saw only last Friday. And, following Modern Romance are repeats of the Julio Iglesias video, and ABC’s performance – although they both sandwich a fresh new entry from The Pretenders. Still watching Windy although the fast forward button is taking a bit of a hammering these days, not my favourite period at all.

Still watching these wind's. Cheers for the good work you deliver here.
As retroneil said it was strange how they cut from The Police's naff video to the crazy pack that is Zoo. Not impressed I can tell you, bring back the girls!!!!!!
The coverage has suffered from repeated performances thanks to the cut episodes which as Steve says makes recent viewing a FFWD fest.

Thanks again for the reviews Windy and give or take the crap/turkey's in these episodes (me too with the FFWD! ) I have generally enjoyed seeing them. I keep saying this but will BBC Four sit on the 1982 repeats until the new year or start showing TOTP two or more episodes per week from June onwards. Literally 1981 will be all over in a couple of weeks/unless it's re-run again. Suppose having two years shown per year would be the wise idea as the repeats would be all over by the late 2020's and not sure TOTP would have the same appeal to the then middle aged viewers a decade or so from now. Mind you with the way things are moving television wise with online/on demand content BBC Four may not even exist by then and maybe TOTP's archives (albeit censored) could become more readily available... even along the lines of pay per view which would/could be a very lucrative revenue stream for the BBC/music publishing companies but perhaps not so for the bands concerned! Looking forward to Soft Cell's Bedsitter tonight - a top synth tune, but think it's the promo they'll be airing which I've seen before.

26 November 1981: Presenter – Mike Read: Broadcast BBC Four 03/06/2016 (Thanks to POPSCENE for the running order) (25) The Jets – “Yes Tonight Josephine” (3) Earth, Wind & Fire – “Let’s Groove” (23) Toyah – “Good Morning Universe” (15) Cliff Richard – “Daddy’s Home” (28) Imagination – “Flashback” (18) Ultravox – “The Voice” (24) Kim Wilde – “Cambodia” (14) Kool & The Gang – “Steppin’ Out” (1) Queen & David Bowie – “Under Pressure” Last night’s play out track is tonight’s opening act – more 50’s faux Rock ‘n Roll (but at least it's not a medley). There are two notable things on this edition of TOTPs. First is Kim Wilde’s unexpected appearance in BBC TV Studio 6. Her record label had sent a promo video for “Cambodia” to the programme, but on viewing it, the BBC objected to a shot showing a snake climbing Kim’s leg. So Kim’s had to dash over to Wood Lane and give an impromptu performance - which is absolutely wonderful btw! Second notable thing is one of the new cheerleader dancers who’s trying to mug as much camera time as he can – a face I’m sure everyone will recognise.

19 November 1981: Presenter – Steve Wright: Broadcast BBC Four 02/06/2016 (Thanks to POPSCENE for the running order) (17) Modern Romance – “Ay Ay Ay Ay Moosey” (3) Julio Iglesias – “Begin The Beguine” (12) Pretenders – “I Go To Sleep” (26) ABC – “Tears Are Not Enough” (19) Diana Ross – “Why Do Fools Fall In Love?” (30) Fun Boy Three – “The Lunatics (Have Taken Over The Asylum)” (29) Trevor Walters – “Love Me Tonight” (13) Soft Cell – “Bedsitter” (1) Queen & David Bowie – “Under Pressure” (Zoo) (31) The Jets – “Yes Tonight Josephine” If anyone is still watching these TOTPs reruns, you may feel a little déjà vu in this episode. Tonight’s show is a bit special as it features features possibly the world’s greatest musical collaboration (sadly both singers have passed away), and a debut performance from The Fun Boy Three with a song that is probably even more relevant with today’s government than it was with Thatcher’s back in 1981. I managed to stop pressing the ffwd button to watch Fun Boy Three & Soft Cell, the pick of the bunch for me. I also saw Steve Wright interviewing Julio Iglesias and getting a lesson in how to pronounce his name and gets all smug because he did it correctly. Moments later when doing the chart rundown he says "Inglesias"....comedy gold

Moments later when doing the chart rundown he says "Inglesias"....comedy gold Remember hearing a story about James Brown, when asked who he wanted as a support act on his tour he replied 'get me Julio' ( meaning Iglesias ), apparently he was misunderstood & the rapper Coolio was booked instead! Who could forget this?-

Wonder what they'd have made of some of the R&B etc. promos which have been made over the last 20 or so years...

I just watched the Cambodia vid on youtube & all you get is a shot of a snake moving across her calf area...very disappointing. It's always the censorious prudes who have the dirtiest minds

Makes me laugh that . There's nothing in it at all and we have seen many far raunchier Legs&co performances.

I looked at this episode tonight and it wasn't a classic, must be the third mediocre one in a row. Here's how I rated it.November 1981: Presenter – Mike Read: Broadcast BBC Four 03/06/2016 (Thanks to POPSCENE for the running order) (25) The Jets – “Yes Tonight Josephine” more 50s inspired crud (3) Earth, Wind & Fire – “Let’s Groove” well known track that's not for me (23) Toyah – “Good Morning Universe” ... :w***er: (15) Cliff Richard – “Daddy’s Home” :w***er: (28) Imagination – “Flashback” Nothing wrong with it,its just not my thing. (18) Ultravox – “The Voice” Its ok ,not the bands best . (24) Kim Wilde – “Cambodia” An ok pop record. (14) Kool & The Gang – “Steppin’ Out” not for me either (1) Queen & David Bowie - Under Pressure Thankfully this No 1 by Queen and Bowie is a classic which saved this episode from being a total wipe out. I find it strange how TOTP were ahead of the curve in getting rid of the dance troupe before the video had completely took over. Mike Read's comments that Queen and David Bowie haven't made a video for Under Pressure before they play the song in the studio * must be the last example of a non video non performance Top Ten song ? Hopefully we will have a chance to see 1982. *Since this Zoo mob appeared on the scene the studio looks cramped and has the feel of chaos. I prefer the Legs&Co way of doing things. I'm not against all the changes mind you I really like the new theme tune
