Was your favourite period from the years covered here?

This is probably aimed at those of us who are old enough to remember the 60-80s period and if you had the Delorean ready to go up to 88mph and you could go back to any year(s) in this 30 year range which would it be?

My choice would be the second half of the 70s, probably narrowing it down to 1976/7. So many great memories of those two years, I got an extra long summer holiday from school for that fantastic summer of 76 as I did my GCE O levels that year and we could finish school after the last exam. The music was great, my interest in football was at its peak, I started learning to drive and so on

Hi Cartman,

I left school in '91, so the 80's were what I remember most, but purely based on films, TV, media, etc, I think the early 60's offered a lot of optimism.

My parents tell me back then, the job market was not so fierce; you could leave one job and walk into another by the end of the week. Proper apprenticeships etc.

Music was properly taking off then as we know it now (think I would have been more Stones than Beatles).

Contemporary design was really cool then, lots of confidence in interior design, cars, clothes. Beginnings of space exploration and the beginnings of the Bond movies.

I am however very fond of the 70's mainly down to the Sweeney.

I would say i love the whole 30 year period 1960 to to 1990. Each of those decades had so much unique identity and
culture that if i could get back to any period from those 30 years i would love it and find brilliant stuff to do.

Each of the decades had their own merits that I remember fondly and enjoy reminiscing about but just to be difficult the best ten year period for me was 1975 to 1985 when I was between the ages of 13 and 23.

At the start of that period I was really enjoying school (I considered it to be a great social event that was interrupted with lessons) and thereafter it was dating, leaving school and starting my apprenticeship - the first year of which was away from home, completing the apprenticeship, buying our first house and getting married.

Throughout that period there were so many changes in music, TV, cars, motorbikes, everything that I had an interest in, that if I could borrow Athene Noctua's DeLorean I would be back there in an instant.

For me it is also difficult to pin it to an individual decade. The whole of the 70's were special to me, and so were the 80's. My high school years were great days and influenced me a lot. So much so that I am running a campaign at the moment to save my old school from being bulldozed and replaced with a housing estate. Bolly & me met in the 80s too, which makes it a special decade to me.

Great quote from Sam Tyler that I can agree with,school being a great social event that was interrupted with lessons.I felt that,too.And also Gene Hunt being currently in a fight to save his old school:mine was indeed demolished around 30 months ago,and I'm still heartbroken.I think if I could go back in time,I would have to choose 1980-1990.I'd like to go back further,perhaps 65'-75',but I'll choose 80'-90' as I lived that decade,and from 82' I remember quite a lot.I certainly remember watching the 1982 World Cup,I remember the 1981 FA Cup Final.I started Secondary School in 1986,so left in 1991.Those,without a shadow,were the best days of my life.The innocence,the fun,the laughter.The first 'real love'.The first experience with a girl.The first time of getting your heart broken,and never forgetting.The friendships that you'll never,ever replace.Those times you never get back.Oh,to re-visit those days would be good.I'd go back tomorrow.

For me it’s the period 1992-99 I enjoy the most. A lot of things just came together well for me back then which I will always look back on fondly (1993, 1995 and 1997 particularly so). I think that youth to young adult period – that I was in at that time, is the one you always enjoy the most and many things I enjoy and have a passion for and my self discovery came about in this period too.(Probably wasn't) but it just felt a much more carefree time then too but I'm sure right now feels pretty much the same for 18-24 year old's now. That’s not to say there aren’t other times both before and after this period that I have fond memories for - 1980's particularly. It’s just this period is the one for me.

Was never really too fussed about my school days to be honest. Had some good times but nothing I’d call special and wasn’t too upset when they closed/demolished it in 1992.

I am a firm believer of times having to move on and despite liking some retro things I tend not to dwell on the past that much but do appreciate the good stuff. I can also take or leave much of what is happening these days. It just feels cold and bland compared to what we had a few years earlier… Sam Smith anyone?

True in my opinion about the period you are most fond of is the late teenage years, early adult period. That is why I like the late 70s so much and that period is special to me. Interesting replies guys, what is to some a great year to others, of a slightly different age group probably won't be, for example I hated the early 90s, in fact I rate 1993 as the worst year ever, mainly because a lot of bad stuff happened to me that year but, generally I thought that period was drab and depressing. However in about 1995 I think the 90s seemed to perk up quite suddenly and I actually liked the second half of the decade

Sort of agree with Cartman, as 1993, was when my dad died and the early 90's was a bit on the miserable side with the Recession etc, and not feeling happy at work during 1994/95 (but things took a turn for the best from mid '95 onwards when gradually my life got a lot happier from then on). Although before about 1992 and going back to about 1987, when I left school was an interesting time of self discovery, left school, getting my first proper job, experiencing working and looking for work previously, buying my own choice of clothes, then passing my test, getting my first car, and getting to meet and dance with a few lovely girls and being disappointed too later!

I think if I did go back to that era though and relive my life then with my knowledge now, I would certainly handle a few things differently!

Some great times too, with socialising with my mates from 16 upwards and being a passenger in my mates cars (which included MK2 Escort RS Mexicos! That's what got me into RWD Escorts!) and going to the parties etc. Felt important and cool being invited! Even if sometimes there were arguments but a lot of it was down to one bloke I remember!

If I could go back in time though, I think being half my current age and going back to the mid to late 60's in the UK would be great fun and then perhaps going to Summer 1976 (I only remember a little of it when I started school at 5 that year) and experiencing the weather, the culture, music, etc. (Having a peek in new car showrooms would be fun too!)

I as lucky enough to have been 16 in the summer of 76 and it was too unbelievably ace for words!

Not all summers from my childhood were quite as great though, I can remember when I was 4, which would have been 1964, going on holiday with mum and dad to Llandudno and it threw it down all week! We didn't have a car then so it was a long journey from Bury Knowsley Street on the train, non corridors, steam hauled, with no bog!!
