I happened to be entering a branch of McDonalds around 11.00am this morning. A member of staff then announced to customers that there was going to be a two minute silence - it seemed to be observed by everybody in the restaurant. Nice one respect to that McDonalds branch too!

Always respect the 2 minutes silence here in Nottingham. It's only right for all of the folk who have fought and fallen, heroes every one.

Proud to wear a poppy and put some coinage of the realm in the little red tin, very proud that my Dad takes part in the proceedings each year too as he's ex-Royal Navy (he was on parade at the Cenotaph in Whitehall twice in the '50s while he was still serving). It's only right that we should all remember those who went away to fight on our behalf, so many of whom didn't come home. I'm certainly thankful that my maternal Great Grandfather and his brothers all returned safely in 1918. In the grand scheme of things it wasn't really that long ago, it's easy to forget that only a few generations have passed since the two great wars of the 20th Ctook place - we should all remember that. Yes I always put money in the collecting tins each year and buy a poppy. Dad was in world war 2, in North Africa and ended up a prisoner of war for three years in Germany. My grandad was in world war 1 and got invalided home after catching a bullet at Ypres. It was while recuperating that he met my grandma.
