Fairly sure he's turned up in bit parts in a few other things too.

I also remember him in the films Island of Terror and The Vault of Horror. Vi

If you watch The Day The Earth Caught Fire & think that the guy who plays the editor of the paper isn't a very good actor, it's because he wasn't an actor at all, he played himself in the film, he was the retired editor of The Daily Express. He went on to play another news editor in another Val Guest film recently shown on talkingpicturestv '80,000 Suspects'.

I was watching a bit of this episode yesterday on ITV4 and I was struck by how really well Glyn Owen played the scene were he meets up with Jack to give him some information. I just read up a little on him. He played an Irish doctor in the early ITV soap Emergency Ward 10, also two other BBC series which ran for a good while.

Charles I’ve always like that scene, another great piece of casting.

Great performance by Owen, his scenes with Carter & Regan are two of the best Sweeney moments. The scene in the car where Carter & Regan talk about him is also memorable.
A downbeat episode that shows ex copper Hough & witness Pope living miserable lives, alone & dependent on alcohol.
