Carl Davis the bafta winning composer has died at the age of 86. He wrote over 200 film and tv scores apparently during his career.
He was born in New York but had lived in Britain since 1961.
RIP Carl.

Sad news. I'd heard of some of his film work, but hadn't realised he was responsible for so much work on British TV themes, including That Was The Week, That Was. RIP.

Very sad news!
I recall going to a "picnic in the park" concert called "Wings and Strings" at the Dunsfold airfield back in 2010 where Carl Davis led the orchestra. The concert opened with a flypast of Spitfires and Hurricanes and then the music started with Carl conducting the orchestra opening with William Walton’s "Spitfire Prelude and Fugue". It was a huge event with thousands of people in the audience singing along to many wartime songs. While other music was being played Carl wandered around the park before taking residence in a tent and autographing people's programs. Our daughter still has her signed copy somewhere in one of her bookcases.
It was certainly an evening we'll not forget.
R.I.P. Carl
