To whet the old appetite, Ian Nairn did a great review if Newcastle in the Get Carter era where he did a joint appreciation of the Toon and Arhus in Denmark. The TCR lettering on the version I’ve found on You Tube is a bit irritating but after a while you don’t notice it, at least too much. There’s some great city scenes we all recognise and a few other items of interest. Nairn was an architectural critic and there’s some excellent old episodes of his travels in the late sixties and early seventies. These are well worth a watch as they show a step back in time to architectural trends of the period. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Nairn

P.S. That Nairn Newcastle episode was broadcast 07/05/70 so bang on the money for GC era.

The perfect excuse for watching Get Carter again! I'll pour myself a scotch tonight but will try not to be having a good laugh as I pass the bottle round. Sam

There was a very "Scotchy" Newcastle meet a few years ago where we drained a bottle in the Central Bar. Landlord was very happy I've had enough of all this excessive sunny weather, bring on the Autumn and a visit to The Toon !

Landlord was very happy I've had enough of all this excessive sunny weather, bring on the Autumn and a visit to The Toon ! I caught the aftermath of that session Del. We did the same thing in the Holiday Inn in Bolton last year too and I'm sure we'll enjoy ourselves in 4 weeks time in whatever pub/bar we'll be in too. Yes we'll be in the swing of things this time in 4 weeks really looking forward to it and catching up with you all too. Giving GC a spin anytime isn't a bad idea either! Toon Here we Come!

For those of us travelling north in the traditional manner, à la Jack, it looks like we’ve dodged a bullet with the ongoing rail strikes and overtime bans which have been announced for 30/09 and 04/10. i think this means nothing else will be announced until after the meet. Saturdays are seemingly being targeted as the most impactful days for industrial action so even if further strikes are announced, this shouldn’t affect any of us travelling up on the Friday but if you’re travelling up on Saturday, you may need to change your arrangements. However, as said, it looks like we’re ok for the meet weekend. www.nationalrail.co.uk/travel-information/industrial-action/
