Guitarist, songwriter and R & B icon Wilko Johnson passed away on Monday evening. Best known for his work with Doctor Feelgood in the mid 70s and his unique guitar technique which combined rhythm and lead at the same time, Wilko went on to perform with The Blockheads and other respected bands originating from the 70s Pub Rock scene. In the early 2010's he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and survived a risky operation which left him cancer free for a number of years. Very sad news. I'm not a big fan of Wilko or massively into Doctor Feelgood's stuff but they were influential in changing a stale music scene in the mid-'70's with the back to basics pub rock scene and created all the conditions for Punk to emerge shortly afterwards and everything that came along after it too. Hopefully the BBC Four documentary on Pub Rock/they featured in may get an airing and will have to search out some of their stuff too - I know. RIP Wilko thanks for the contribution.

Sad news. I remember him more from The Blockheads than from Dr Feelgood but surprised that he was 75 years of age, I thought he was younger. R.I.P. Wilko

Very sad news, especially having previously inimidated death with that stare of his a few years ago when diagnosed with terminal cancer.
I refer you all to Lord Emsworth's most recent "Now Playing" post for the OGWT clip of the Feelgoods playing Roxette, where you can witness visually and audibly his incredible style.
RIP Wilco

Sad news indeed, he did so well to survive that long. Did some great work with Dr Feelgood.
