ADMIN NOTE:
Opening 10 posts have been moved over from the Black Panther Then & Now thread to this more appropriate discussion thread. Gene.
Brilliant then and nows Gene, as always. I very much remember the Leslie Whittle abduction case, at the time it was happening during the 70s. After reading this thread, I've been reading up on the case again, and I've watched a YouTube documentary about Neilson made in 2000.
I didnt know they'd made a film of the case, or maybe I'd forgotten about it? I wonder if the producers requested the Whittle families permission before making it? I remember at the time some people suspected poor Leslie's brother of having something to with her death. He had been giving media interviews and public appeals for information about her disappearance. I'd forgotten how young poor Leslie was though, only 17 years of age My first impression when I saw the thread on the film was that its not for me, as I don't normally watch films which feature young people being murdered. I've changed my mind about this one though. The film is available on YouTube in a remastered, restored version and I'll be watching it tonight or maybe tomorrow.
Charles.

Watched this today having seen the documentary last night.
Was a bit disappointed in the film, acting was fine but didn’t have much atmosphere.

Found the film on YouTube and I've just started working my way through it. Donald Sumpter is good as Nielsen.

There's also an interesting documentary on YouTube tube about Nielsen, it was a channel 5 programme from 2000, and that's worth watching too.

Kidsgrove is close to where I live and I often cycle through Bathpool Park. I always think that the park never really changes, and even without the notoriety of the murder it not a place I like much, it has quite a bleak atmosphere. Nielsen was questioned in Water Street Police station (and Newcastle station and possibly kidsgrove station) in Newcastle-under-Lyme, and there was footage on YouTube of him being bundled out of a car into Water Street nick. None of the Police stations are used for Policing anymore. Kidsgrove nick is very close to Bathpool car park and Nielsen must have known this. I wonder how Nielsen choose this place as it location is relatively obscure and not easily found. If I recall correctly, Nielsen had bought a torch and the dymo tape machine from nearby Newcastle Town centre that featured in the kidnap. The film itself probably has the least dialogue of any film I’ve seen, but is a good watch none the less. However, I could imagine the film’s release being a bit too close to the time of the murder, and maybe it was seen to be in bad taste.

I got a bit further with the film last night, I'm probably about half way through it, and I like the location filming in Bathpool Park. Overall I think it's a slightly strange film, as Bojan said, there's very little dialogue or characterisation. I can't make my mind up if I like it or I don't.

It lacks something, to my mind it's poorly directed.

The reason for sparse dialogue is to really put it across to the viewer what Neilson was like. A man of very few words. Personally, I feel the lack of dialogue makes the film far more realistic. Bojan Scores - Bathpool Park is an eerie place. A very heavy atmosphere and bleak as you say. It would have been very intense for the crew to have been filming there so soon after the actual events. I'd imagine Donald Sumpter would have felt very unusual in his role given the circumstances. Gene.

Gene. Yes I see what you mean, however would have liked something else in place of dialogue to hold my interest.
