I was in London yesterday, oddly enough, visiting a couple of Sweeney locations while I was down there. During the afternoon my phone went into overdrive with the number of messages coming through with news about Dennis. I was absolutely gutted to hear it. The poignant fact I was actually in a Sweeney location when I heard the news is something I'll always remember.
For me he will always be George Carter and Terry McCann. Though that may be a little unfair as there was far more to Dennis than just those two characters he brought to life. I still watch episodes of The Sweeney & Minder frequently and it's easy to forget that these shows were so long ago and that the stars of them have aged or worse, passed away since they were made. Now for me, three of the most memorable of these stars are once again back together.
I'll treasure the signed photos I have of all of them that little bit more now.
R.I.P Dennis. R.I.P John. R.I.P George.

Such sad news to hear yesterday. He was great in The Sweeney, Minder and New Tricks and a lot of other things like Stay Lucky which I really enjoyed and like others have said On the up. Always remember going shopping on a Thursday night with my parents and then on to my Nan's where we would watch Minder without fail. Happy days. Rip Dennis.

I was saddened to hear of Dennis's passing yesterday. I have loved his work over the years and feel his career left a body of work that will garner new fans in the future. Of course we always look at his most iconic of characters, namely George Carter and Terry McCann but Dennis was more than that. He had several other hits on both big and small screen. All in all a very successful career. We have certainly lost another legend of the golden age of tv.
RIP Skip

I like James, thought his character Jelly was a good addition to the squad in the Sweeney. Glad to hear these stories from an insider working on the show.
