Chatting with Annie tonight as I do from time to time she mentioned watching a news item years ago with Julian Pettifer. He always seemed an easy going and popular reporter / journalist but I instantly remembered him from the quiz show "Busman's Holiday". Anyone else remember this program from the mid-eighties?
The basis of the program was that there were three teams of three contestants, each team were of a particular occupation, the quizmaster was Julian Pettifer (replaced later by Sarah Kennedy by which time I'd given it up!) and each team was asked questions about their and their opponents occupations. The winning team was then shipped out to have a true busman's holiday and experiencing their own occupation overseas.
Certainly far more interesting than the likes of today's fare as it gave a bit of an insight into real-life occupations rather than what we're dealt with now which is the never ending rounds of cookery/baking/sewing/pottery competitions, continuous elimination rounds, and the predictable but so tedious 15 second delay before announcing who is being kicked off.
So what other long-forgotten gameshows or quizshows can other members recall?
Sam.

Jimmy Tarbuck's Winner Takes All, one of those filler shows in between Crossroads and Coronation Street always springs to mind and Fred Dineage with Gambit.
During the Children's hour in the mid 70s, there was the largely forgotten Pop Quest with Steve Merrike with teen pop fan contestants from the ITV regions and the odd break for a special guest, Marc Bolan being the first. Mike Read took over as presenter in the later series.

Yes I remember Busman's Holiday, I didn't remember that Elton Welsby was one of the presenters though until I looked it up, he was a sports presenter on Granada.
'Tell The Truth' first shown in the 50's but revived in 1983 on channel 4 presented by Graeme Garden then later returned on ITV with Fred Dineage-
'Whose Baby?' is another one I remember-

I remember an edition of this where the panel had to guess which three guests was the bestselling cowboy/Western author J.T. Edson. I think there was an American guy, a woman from Texas and a chubby guy in his 50s from Derbyshire who looked like he'd never left Derbyshire, let alone visited America (who turned out to be the real J.T. Edson). I couldn't for the life of me remember what the series was called.

Yes I remember Busmans Holiday, it wasn't bad.
Ask the Family with Robert Robinson anyone? Late 60s/early 70s and seemed terribly middle class, everyone on it were usually quantity surveyors from somewhere like Surbiton

The fathers usually tried to outdo Robert Robinson with their comb-overs and I don't think I ever saw an edition with the Jones family from Tower Hamlets. And the next question on quantum physics is for parents and older children only...

Looking at youtube I notice Gyles Brandreth had a few quiz/game shows including 'Star Quality' from 1988 or 89, a confused HTV production combining talent show & quiz show elements, the clip below features Hughie Green near the end congratulating Brandreth on his show.
Two others from Brandreth were 'The Parlour Game' & 'The Railway Carriage Game', a BBC show from 1985, can't see any clips of it on yt.
