RIP Tom, sad he had to battle Parkinson's for almost 15 years too. Thanks for your memories and contribution to TV & Entertainment.

Something I've just remembered about Tom was that, about 15-20 years ago, I think it was channel 5 did a programme along the lines of "where are they now" catching up with celebrities who had been big a few years ago. Paul Daniels and Bernie Clifton were two of them, and it was a kind of "laugh at these deluded people who aren't famous anymore" kind of exercise"
They did an episode featuring Tom O Connor, but it was never shown, as he was a nice, normal, pleasant bloke enjoying his life with his family and would have been poor value for exploitative trash TV

I think they did one on Leo Sayer too, showing him backstage at small venues clashing with a girlfriend he had just split up with who happened to be his manager at the time. Tom represented an era of television which relied on good old fashioned entertainment, so good for him for not giving the trash TV lot what they wanted.

You're right Carty about it not making trash TV too although the Louis Theroux one on Paul Daniels/(sic) 'The Lovely' Debbie McGee was good and very interesting!
