Sad news. I can remember him driving for Brabham, Ferrari, and Williams through the 70s and into the early 80s. Not as successful as team-mates Niki Lauda or Alan Jones but he managed some F1 wins during his career. R.I.P. Carlos

Possibly one of the greatest drivers never to win the Formula 1 WDC title. He famously entered the 1981 season finale leading the standings but went on to lose out to Nelson Piquet by just a single point. A true legend of the sport. RIP

Carlos was part of a great era in F1. There was so much talent around him yet he still shone. RIP Carlos

I've only just seen this a hour or so ago, RIP Carlos as said a true talent in a different era of F1 who arguably was the best driver of that period not to land a WDC a bit like say Massa was a decade or so ago. Enjoyed his team battle at Williams with Alan Jones too and even though Jones was the driver I liked and supported (I think he got me into F1) Carlos was a great talent who perhaps slipped under the radar compared to Villeneuve, Jones, Pironi, Arnoux, Lauda, Prost and Piquet in that period. Thanks for the contribution and memories in F1 Carlos.

RIP Carlos, I remember some great duels between him and Emmerson Fittipaldi. Also recall Lauda being asked if he thought Carlos was a great team mate or a great rival, to which the much missed Niki replied in typical fashion ''neither!''. Often described as F1s most handsome driver, he could be brilliant one minute and dire the next but he was definitely up there with the best. Villain
