I often think of him and this classic sketch when I get on public transport myself... Vi Yep. I have encountered a couple of them in my time too, bus nutters. One old lady sat beside me at a bus stop once and we were total strangers to one another but I saw she wanted to sit so I moved up a bit and smiled at her and as she sat down she said 'Oh, I shouldn't be sitting on these hard benches, it doesn't do my piles any good'. My eyes were on stalks and I didn't know where to look! Imagine saying that to a stranger! Old people have no filter sometimes and it's embarrassing but bloody brilliant! :D

I used to like The Detectives - the series he did with Robert Powell.
The opening titles to it are familiar - can't for the life of me think what they were based on.......

This is the episode I was talking about. The last 5 minutes of this episode has this song you were looking for and bloody brilliant it is too! That's it!! I've been looking for that for years, thanks @thepeoplespoet That is testament I suppose to how good he is. A short song on TV once almost 37 years ago and it's stuck with me all this time. I look forward to putting this on during the festive period as, yes sir, I am going to be a miserable pain in the @rse this Christmas, and next year, and probably the one after that

Old people have no filter sometimes and it's embarrassing but bloody brilliant! :D The Lancashire way would be to mouth the embarrassing bits, as if lip reading. It came from the cotton mills where the noise of the machines made normal conversation difficult so the women who worked in them used to mouth words and lip read, it was called mee mawing and my Gran used to do it as she had worked in a spinning mill. Outside work, if a conversation included something like piles, or anything a bit impolite, the participants would then go into mouthing mode, for this bit.

Jasper was a must watch for me. Liked his BBC days. Has anyone seen his stuff come up on the cable channels ? For some reason no the Carrott stuff doesn't really seem to get a repeat on any Sky/Cable/Freeview channels Del. AFAIK the last thing of Carrott's I saw repeated was Carrott del Sol on Granada Plus in like '99 or something. Maybe there's a reason they're not repeated but they're just as good as anything else that does get repeated on the various channels.

Hard to believe that the quiz show he hosted 'Golden Balls' ended 12 years ago, it doesn't seem that long ago it was on.

My belief is that he is just one of those people who gets criminally overlooked. I honestly don't understand why. At the time, he was just as satirical and edgy as any other comedian out there. OK, he wasn't one of the 'alt comedians' as he started before then but for the time he was doing what he was doing, he was 'with it' and he did a lot of satirical stuff in the early 80s. Shame he is so overlooked.

It tends to be only sitcoms that get repeated. Stand up & sketch comedy is generally dated by references to people & events of the time it was broadcast.

"An Audience With" gets repreated fairly often. The Billy Connolly one especially, which is only dated by the stars in the audience although Ringo Starr looks the same today as he did back then
