It tends to be only sitcoms that get repeated. Stand up & sketch comedy is generally dated by references to people & events of the time it was broadcast. True Arthur. I think that could adds a novelty factor to it if viewed today. Social comment et al

That makes total sense but it still doesn't stop them from being funny. The people who would love to see them tend to either be older people who remember the references and would get the jokes, ardent fans of certain people who just want to see something they haven't seen before and people who like old telly because it's interesting. I am in all 3 categories, myself. :) I reckon they should just repeat them anyway as a lot of it is quite broad.

I'd rather watch it than any of today's output that's for sure.

Some of the reason things aren't repeated can be due to rights - over something in the original contract when the series was made. Monty Python had to re-negotiate with the BBC (via their own Python Pictures company) for DVD releases of the TV series. The spat over the series "Rutland Weekend Television" (either a repeat or on DVD) still (aparently) continues!
I hate politics. Even more so over the last 12months.
I'd love to see repeats of Carrots work - regardless of how old it is. As commented earlier in the thread - Carrots work is often overlooked.
I have plenty of live recordings - one from 1975 in Nottingham; and that is very funny - even if a little bit of material is dated and covers topics of the time. But all of is observational stuff were still relavant today.
In 50 years time - would repeats of "Have I Got News For you" from 2010 go the same way? (Unless you really knew everything in the news 60 years before)

The Nottingham show was recorded and put onto an album. The album is (conveniently) on Youtube.
