I'm not impressed at all with this current Network sale Arthur. I'll be waiting for the next one, which hopefully will be better.
Charles.

Network have a buy one get one free offer on at the moment on certain items. I ordered some dvds today, but as usual the website is excruciatingly slow and you have to check to make sure you dont order more than one copy of an item. It finishes next Tuesday.

I've just had another look at the Network BOGOF Sale page, and I'm surprised at the fact that they have so many films available in blue ray editions when a lot of the films on offer seem to be very insignificant productions. I thought the process for producing a blue ray version of a film was fairly expensive?

Yes Charles it's something I've wondered about, presumably they don't spend as much time restoring the obscure B films, not sure how much a blu ray transfer costs to do relative to dvd.
I read that it took 3 years to restore 'Lawrence Of Arabia' to HD quality, it's a long film but they must've gone over it with a fine tooth comb. To restore a Sweeney episode took 70 hours according to an online article.
They're releasing 46 hours worth of the 60's tv series 'Maigret' on blu ray costing £85. I don't know who the audience is for this considering it hasn't been seen since it was originally shown. It's a lot of money to fork out for a show that few people remember.

When I read about the restoration of the original Maigret BBC series Arthur, I was very, very surprised that it had been saved after all these years when so much other TV stuff has been chucked on the skip or taped over. I can't see many people buying at £85 though, esp as its a black and white series.
I will be googling the blue ray conversion process anyway, to try and learn more about it.

The time involved in it influences the cost. If a great original copy is known then upgrading without restoring is fairly straight forward. As Arthur says regarding Laurence of Arabia the length of the film and the staggering amount of frames that breaks down to that need in depth restoration work increases the cost exponentially. I wonder if money was no bar exactly how much a film or tv show would cost to restore back to as good as it could be. The Professionals dvd release of the early 2000s was pretty much a straight transfer but the Network Blu Ray version was a restoration and the difference is amazing.

Charles, I looked at this on Thursday and found their website was working better this time around. The items I ordered have already been despatched so perhaps I just ordered at the right time! Vi

My latest order arrived fairly speedily this time. It came on Monday, but they have gotten one of my items wrong, so I will need to return it and ask for the correct one to be sent out.
