Can anyone remember a theme tune that was used on a TV show but can't remember what show it was from?
Here's one to start. I remember this one in the 70s and the song was 'We Plough The Fields & Scatter". This wasn't the expected hymn type arrangement though. It was a jaunty upbeat orchestral arrangement but for the life of me I can not remember which show it was from. Something to do with farms or gardening at a guess...
Any ideas?
Gene.

No Del. The one I remember was just an orchestral piece. No lyrics, just brass and strings.

No Del. The one I remember was just an orchestral piece. No lyrics, just brass and strings. Worth a shot. I was a bit concerned when i heard it. According to google it has a tie in with the title.

Funny, 'We Plough The Fields And Scatter' came into my head just the other day watching the actor David Jackson in a Z Cars episode, every time I see him I think of Marion in the Minder episode, there's a peculiar moment when he loudly sings/shouts 'we plough the fields & scatter'.

Sadly the only ones I can find on the web are the hymn style arrangements... hmmm Songs of Praise territory and all that! Hate it when you can't find something like this, sure a lot of the regional ITV programmes used instrumental/rearranged versions of these sort if tunes. Edit: not too sure Gene but is it like anything here? americana-uk.com/versions-john-barleycorn

No DE, nothing like that at all. It was just an orchestra without any vocals or lyrics.

Had any luck with this Gene? Any more thoughts as to whether it was a farming or religious programme?

Any Ideas what channel it was on?
If it was ITV, there is a chance it was "Morning Worship" - which was broadcast live each week from a a different church around the country - so the ITV company local to the church would produce the programme. There wasn't a set theme tune, each company chose whatever they felt.
Alternatively, ATV under it's various "....Today" series of programmes did a series called "Farming Today" - this was alternated every other Sunday with "Angling Today" - and usually broadcast first thing on the Sunday Morning. Sometimes, it was stuck on at around 11pm on a Saturday night.
Both series were networked.
ATV also did "Gardening Today" at lunchtimes during the week -but that used a different piece of music for certain.
Just a suggestion.

The only version of "We Plough The Fields" that I know of that comes to mind was from "Godspell" which was early 70's but not at all orchestral, more a hangover from the hippies and flower power.
Not my sort of viewing pleasure but we had a teacher at school that left the teaching profession to become a man of the cloth. He was a bit of a hippy but also quite adept at tinkling the ivories so we'd often have to sit around singing stuff that he liked.
