I think some of the late 80's & 90's working class 'issues' based dramas would now look particularly dated, something like 'Common As Muck', who cares about the lives of bin men these days?
A show like 'Spender' looks more dated somehow than 70's cop shows. 'Boon' is another once popular show that didn't quite grab me when I watched again a while ago.
Doug Mountjoy's passing is a reminder that snooker once got peak viewing figures. Everyone seemed to watch it, I remember the deputy head at school assembly the morning after the Davis/Taylor final speaking to us as if he knew we'd all stayed up late to watch it. Impossible now to imagine a snooker match capturing the nation's interest.

That's a very good point about Spender looking dated Arthur. Though I do like the series a lot, I agree that it feels older than the likes of The Professionals and other 70s/80s overlap shows.
I was at the crucible with my Dad the year Taylor beat Davis. I met a few of the players there. John Spencer was one of the nicest chaps you could wish to meet. To this day though, Jimmy White was the most friendly of the lot. I've met Jimmy 3 or 4 times and he's always the same. Alex Higgins on the other hand was a right tit. I almost got into a scrap with him after taking his photo after an exhibition match in 1993. Extremely flawed personality but a wonderful player to watch.

Good points. I agree that some stuff from the 80s and 90s has dated badly, much more so than 70s stuff, which, somehow still manages to look fresh and good.
PS, Gene, Alex Higgins, I worked (very briefly) with his daughter, Lauren, at a legal expenses place I was at for a few weeks about 3 years ago. It remains the only job I have ever walked out on because it was so awful!

Always thought he was a total knob.

Even my late father watched it - and he hated all sport! Vi
