There were fireworks going of from 5pm here and well beyond midnight. A fortune gone up in smoke. I agree about standing out to see them. It was bitterly cold last night and the pull of the pot of mulled cider I had on the go meant I only heard the fireworks rather than saw any.

Hard to believe we are already a week post Christmas! I feel like there were more fireworks than normal last night. Did anyone else experience the same? I heard them for about half an hour to forty minutes after 12. I couldn’t really believe people wanted to stand outside in it, it was so cold, and that’s in Devon! I imagine it was much colder for those of you up north. It was totally brass monkeys!

To be honest I only heard them, too! Had a quick peak out the front door to see how close they were, but everything was very frosty!

Never bought any myself, seems like a waste of money to me but then I always seem to be at odds with the rest of the world. Anyway, Happy New Year to all

I like them ... but as with everything in life, moderation is key! They seemed to be going off all evening from the moment it went dark yesterday. I wonder sometimes if it’s people doing the fireworks early for their kids ... but then they’re hardly going to stay asleep when the others start at midnight, so I’m not sure that can be it.

We had some go off hours before midnight for some reason and then some at the time but not too many. It’s a lot of money to set on fire since the cheap ones aren’t worth it so you need to spend a few quick to get something worthwhile.

While we're not up in the Tundra or the frozen North it was still bitterley cold here in Hampshire last night. Thankfully the fireworks were just sporadic through the evening and then over wtih by 12:15 meaning that I could take the dog for his walk earlier than previous new years.
Overall the festivities around here have been very low key, fewer lights up on the houses, no insanity at the supermarkets for the food, and some of our neighbours have already started taking down their external Christmas lights today. It would appear that the majority have been playing by the rules and there were no parties on the go.

It's been more wet than cold here in the east. In fact it's wetter than a wet weekend in Wales.
Some people were flooded on Christmas Eve which is beyond cruel.

Many more houses had lots of lights etc. Hard to comment on shops because I always go at quiet times, even pre-COVID.

Well, I feel really old now as my son is 19 today.
How did that happen?
