Hi Del, You'll love Berlin. It's lovely jubbley as some would say. Just don't mention the war (although it's hard to not get away from it, whether it's the Nazis of WW2 or the Cold War) I've spent many days working over their, but I've never been able to see the city as a tourist. Maybe I'll get the chance next year to do the tourist side of Berlin

I'm travelling to ...Berlin I really know nothing about the place apart from the obvious Berlin wall Checkpoint Charlie etc I wondered if any others on here had been to the city and what would you recommend to go and visit. Will you be flying there Del Boy? Or will you be taking some gear over to flog in the 3 wheeled van? Steed

Have a good one there Del. Just a quick thing to add to what eveyone's added is if you can visit the DDR museum too. Well worth it to see what the life in the East was like too. www.ddr-museum.de/en

Hello Del,been there myself and yes you will enjoy yourself.Apart from what's been said already try going over to the old east and see some of the real Berlin. It comes across very bohemian and lots of little cafe's tucked away. What you may find in the bar's and club's is just about everyone smokes and you really notice this after years of smoke free pubs.I did ask some bird why isn't banned there and she said that they tried to ban it but nobody would stop so they leave them to it! Also try madame Lulu's,ask for Hedi and it's great what you can get for 50 euro's!!!

I recommend Berlin too Del.
Been there only once, and the place was covered in snow at the time, but still a great city all the same.
We stayed in a hotel near the Zoo on the west side, not far from the Euro Centre as seen in Funeral In Berlin (revolving Mercedes sign building) - and I echo the earlier comment that FIB is the best of the Palmer trilogy. Great Irish bar in the Euro Centre as well. Also near the damaged cathedral* (down to us I believe - I mentioned it once while we there, but I think I got away with it).
Fascinating place and it's interesting to be able to ascertain when you've got into the Eastern part going by how the architecture noticeably changes. Currywurst was very nice as well, and probably very unhealthy!
You'll enjoy it.
* Edit, just realised not really a cathedral, which I suppose in Berlin would be the Berliner Dom - very much undamaged, and impossible to get a decent picture of without the TV Tower appearing in the background! What I was referring to was the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. Just to clear that up!
