I'm travelling to ...Berlin I really know nothing about the place apart from the obvious Berlin wall Checkpoint Charlie etc I wondered if any others on here had been to the city and what would you recommend to go and visit.

Never been there myself Del but if you like your trainers, there is a great Adidas Originals store there:
No. 74 Torstraße 74 10119 Berlin Germany
Mon-Sat 12.00pm - 8.00pm
If you're at a loose end it may be worth checking it out, it's not your usual Adidas Store.
Have a great time and enjoy the city, see if you can spot any of the landmarks from Funeral in Berlin, one of Michael Caine's finest.

Cheers steve that address is noted. I love Adidas, for me they are the best. I've never seen the Caine film you speak of but i believe it's a Harry Palmer based movie ? I must get it because i love the Ipcress File.

Good man Del, I love my Adidas too. There is some lairy stuff in there, you know what these boutique type shops are like but there is a smattering of Spezial stuff, I'm sure you'll find something to love there.
Yes, Funeral In Berlin is a Harry Palmer film and in my opinion is the best of the trilogy (Ipcress File & Million Dollar Brain) and well worth checking out.
This website shows the locations in case you want to visit these before you watch the DVD:

Been many many times. I have friends there. I go at least once per year.
Stasi HQ museum is well worth a visit. Go up the Fernsehen turm (television tower) in Alexander Platz. Ideally on a clear day. Not sure what your thing is, but there's some really nice walks to be had in Grunewald forest. Do the usual touristy stuff-Brandenburg Gate etc.
Buy a 'Tageskarte' for use on the S-bahn, U-bahn, trams & buses. Probably the most economic & easiest way to get around. *don't forget to validate it BEFORE first use in the little red 'clocking in' machine on every platform or tram*. You'll get fined if you get caught. Their RPIs are plain clothes. Oh, if you're overawed by the Bier selection, go for Radeberger. You can't whack it! Or Duckstein if you prefer a dark bier.
Any questions, fire away.
